In the vast cosmos of Warhammer 40,000, where bravery and supreme patience are the prime virtues of a true hunter, one hero stands tall among the legends. This is the tale of Jager Tai Khah, the Warhawk who found himself ensnared in an alien trap, yet through his sheer determination, preserved the Imperium as we know it. This tale is part of a multi-part series, a tapestry of interconnected stories that weave together the intricate lore of Warhammer 40,000.
Our saga begins with an unexpected twist of fate. The infant Primark, stolen from the Emperor’s laboratory, was cast into the harsh world of Chorus. As destiny would have it, the rightful destination of Capsule Number Five was Kos, the desolate homeland of Fulgrim The Phoenician. But through the manipulations of enigmatic, powerful forces, the Primarchs of the fifth and third Legions found themselves on alien worlds.
Chorus, or Mundus Plenus in High Gothic, is a feudal world nestled in the Ultima Segmentum. A planet of breathtaking beauty, it boasts lush forests, towering mountains, and azure seas. Yet, despite its natural beauty, it remained technologically primitive. Its inhabitants were content with their simple lives, barely having discovered gunpowder.
In the annals of Chorus, recorded by Horus Lupal himself, it is said that the incubation capsule landed on the bank of a river, discovered by the Talari tribe. Their leader, On Khan, was captivated by the radiant child. Seeing a fierce fire in infant’s eyes, Khan adopted him, believing him to be a gift from the gods. He named him Jagatai.
During those days, the fertile lands of Chorus were under the oppressive rule of the Palatine Empire. With the largest army on the planet, clad in the finest armor and weaponry of a pre-industrial culture, they ruled with an iron fist. Their lands were often marred by the blood of ritual sacrifices, suggesting the worship of dark gods.
Neighbouring the Palatine Empire were the vast steppes inhabited by nomadic tribes, locked in a perpetual state of war. Among these tribes was Jagatai, who was not only distinguished by his might but also his intellect. He envisioned a future free from senseless conflict.
Tragedy struck when Jagatai’s adoptive father, Onan, died in an attack by a rival tribe. Despite his youth, Jagatai, being the best warrior of the Talari, rallied an army to avenge his father’s death. His retaliation was swift and brutal, sparing no one, not even women, children, and the elderly. The rival Khan’s head was placed on a pole, a stark reminder of Jagatai’s ruthless defense of his honor.
After this bloody battle, Jagatai swore to end the wars between the tribes, to unite them, and to overthrow the blood-soaked reign of the Palatines. His tribe, through his relentless efforts, soon evolved into the Talari Confederation. Jagatai led hundreds of victorious battles against other tribes and the Palatine Empire, something no one had achieved before him.
Jagatai’s army, the Mthuli, meaning ‘Irresistible Force’, became a beacon of hope. Mesmerized by his might and strategic genius, warriors voluntarily rallied under his banner, unaware of the reformation that awaited them. Thus, the legend of Jager Tai Khah, the Warhawk, began to take flight, forever inscribed in the annals of the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
