Jaghatai Khan – Warrior of Chogoris – Part 11

The White Scars, the Sixth Legion, and the Sons of Alarius: A Dance of Loyalties and Betrayals

Our tale begins with Magnus, a figure of significance, and the consequential decisions of the White Scars. They selected not to join forces with the Sixth Legion in their combat against the Sons of Alarius. Instead, they ventured to Terra, leaving the Space Wolves to face their destiny without reinforcements.

Jagatai Khan, their fierce leader, had reasons of his own for this decision. Perhaps his interaction with Mortarion, who arrived at Prospero with a mission to lure his brother into the uprising, played its part. Despite the Nurgle-blessed lord of the Death Guard appearing more formidable than ever before, the dark repercussions of serving chaos were unmistakable.

Upon reaching Terra, Khan was plagued by uncertainty in his search for a cause worth fighting for. It was here that Malcador the Sigite, in his wisdom, unveiled the fluidity of truth to the Primarch. The Lord Regent was all too aware that the battle for Terra would be a crucible where the lies of the traitors and the Imperium would clash, ultimately forging the truth to guide the next millennia.

Contrasting this, Khan later asserted that he never held faith in the Emperor’s ideals. He believed that truth and righteousness were as shifting as the sands of time, the victor of war being the only ‘right’ entity.

During the tumultuous times of the Horus Heresy, many Primarchs confronted and vanquished the malevolent servants of chaos. Yet, it was Khan who stood out, not only managing to defeat Manusia Rakshasi, a greater demon, but doing so with his bare hands. He strangled the servant of Slaanesh, proving his irrevocable enmity for the creatures of the Warp and the corrupted souls.

True to his noble spirit, Khan instructed his Space Marines to honorably inter the fallen sons of Perabo, following their battle with the White Scars.

Post-Heresy, Roboot Gilan— the Lord Commander of the Imperium— dispatched the Fifth Legion to the Yasan system, their long-awaited return home. Yet, the anticipated joy was nowhere to be found. In the absence of its defenders, the planet was assaulted multiple times by the Duari. Khan valiantly battled the Zenos for about 70 standard years, post his arrival in his home system.

Then, just as suddenly, he vanished under mysterious circumstances. The White Scars believe that the Great Khan pursued the Duari into the Eldar webway, where he continues to hunt the Zenos. Others hold on to the haunting dream of the Fifth Legion’s chief librarian. A dream where Jagatai Khan fought alone on a desert planet against a formidable creature, only to fall, struck down by a demonic blade.

Such is the tale of Jagatai Khan, a legend among legends, a tale of courage, loyalty, and betrayal. His return to reunite his sons is fervently awaited, fueling the fires of hope among those who remember and honor his legacy.
