Pariah Nexus: Necron Invasion and the Imperium’s Response – Part 9

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war, and in our latest multi-part series, we dive deep into the labyrinthine depths of a Necron Tomb complex. Join us as we traverse the eerie corridors, bathed in the unsettling flicker of witch lights and the whirring sound of alien mechanisms. Our intrepid explorers, led by Inquisitor Draxus, were drawn by the distorted signals of Ork technology to this haunting locale. Their mission? To secure mimetic crystals, repositories of Necron knowledge, as described by the Xenites.

It’s a journey fraught with danger and uncertainty, for the Imperial forces must fight for every step through these labyrinthine corridors. Cryptech constructs leap menacingly from the darkness, while Necron warriors emerge from the flickering gates, engaging Draxus’s forces in relentless firefights. The Imperial ranks dwindle, yet the Inquisitor trusts her intuition, allowing Ephrael Stern, guided by the divine Emperor, to lead them to their localized targets.

Cut to a vast hall, resonating with the hum and glow of colossal Necron machines. Suspended in their midst is a tall humanoid figure, its body formed of living flame, writhing and screaming amidst a network of crackling emerald energy. The sight of this shackled C’tan Shard, a god in chains, is a disturbing one, yet there’s no time to ponder its fate.

Barely have the Imperial forces arrived when new waves of foes emerge from the shadows. Alerted by her allies, the Xenites, Draxus spots the sought-after crystals, embedded in the lattice of hovering mechanisms beside the shackled C’tan. With Death Watch and Sisters of Battle forming a defensive perimeter, the Inquisitor and her tech-priests set to work.

As they labor, Necrons assault the constricting Imperial cordon in wave after relentless wave. Bolter shells tear their bodies apart, and searing melta bursts turn them to vapor. Yet for every Necron that vanishes among the flickering energies, two more stand ready to join the fray. The situation grows increasingly desperate, even as Stern, wielding her holy energy, scorches and annihilates sections of the undying invaders.

Suddenly, a column of Necron war machines, led by Illuminor Szeras, appears in their rear. The zealous Death Watch and Sisters of Battle, despite their unwavering courage, cannot maintain their positions under the devastating fire of Doomsday Arcs and Triarch Stalkers. Stern and her companion Kenil stand their ground, fighting side by side against this mutual, hated foe.

Then, a moment of triumph. Draxus cries out, having finally extracted the crystals. Yet, her victory is bittersweet. Four of the Xenites aiding her have fallen, their bodies charred shells. The realization sets in – she’s lingered too long. The Necrons are closing in, and a fighting retreat is no longer feasible.

In a desperate, final act, Draxus strikes with her power fist upon the mechanism holding the C’tan Shard, shattering it into sparking ruins. Chaos ensues as the C’tan’s cage collapses, horrific lightning surges in all directions, followed by blazes of streaming fire as the C’tan Shard unleashes its fury upon its former jailors.

The Necrons redirect their fire onto the unleashed Shard, and for a moment, it seems they’ve forgotten about the human intruders. Yet, Draxus’s chances of escape are slim. Just when she braces herself for the inevitable, reality twists. Everything sparkles abruptly, and she’s engulfed in heat as the gaze of an unimaginably ancient and alien entity falls upon her. The saga continues…
