Why Did Necrons Turn Their Worlds into Tombs? – Part 11

Welcome back, faithful followers of the grimdark! Today, in our ongoing exploration of the vast, intricate lore of Warhammer 40,000, we’ll be diving into the depths of the Hydrog Gast and the rust-tinted crypts of the VC Dynasty. But be warned, dear readers, this is not a journey for the faint of heart!

Imagine a world where fortified outposts stand isolated, unable to communicate due to the raging storms around them. It’s here, beneath the turbulent waves of Hydrog Gast, that the stasis tombs of the VC Dynasty lay hidden. A perfect hiding spot, not quite the center of a star, but underwater, where one can easily vanish from sight.

The awakening of the Necrons, those ancient mechanical beings, struck a devastating blow to the Imperium. Emerging during a powerful storm, the Necrons of the VC Dynasty are unique due to the high degree of corrosion that their living metal endures, tinting them with rusty colors. But don’t let this fool you! This rust-like appearance doesn’t hinder their combat effectiveness. Quite the opposite, it’s merely an aesthetic quirk resulting from the harsh environment.

Moreover, the VC Dynasty has a solid alliance with the Mayar Dynasty, which explains their united front against the forces of the Imperium. But let’s shift our focus from these rust-tinted warriors to the far reaches of the galactic South, beyond the borders of Segmentum Tempestus, where the AOTP Dynasty rules.

This Dynasty has a special distaste for the Eldar, the reasons for which are as numerous as the stars themselves. The Necrons of the AOTP Dynasty displayed their violent disdain in 898.M41, when their legions marched upon the Elari maiden world of Centia. They fought their way through an alliance of craftworld Elari and Harlequins, only to plunder an ancient gem from the heart of Selena’s world spirit and disappear into the void.

But the AOTP Dynasty’s reign wasn’t always smooth sailing. In 912.M41, a shard of the Void Dragon, a C’tan star god, escaped its imprisonment and laid waste to the AOTP Dynasty in a mindless rage. This Void Dragon was only a faint shadow of its true form, but it still managed to wreak havoc on a dozen worlds before the AOTP Crypteks could force it back into its cage.

Our journey through the stars brings us next to the Jericho Reach. This region holds a special place for the Necrons, with numerous tombs scattered across its worlds. One such world, Realas, is an Imperial mining world located in the Aralis Cluster. The Realas welcomed the Aculus Crusade with open arms, renewing their oaths to the God-Emperor and offering to support the Crusade with manpower and resources.

Yet, their goodwill was met with suspicion from the Imperial Command, particularly from Lord Commander Seasor E. Grave. His concerns stemmed from the world’s large number of T’au devotees, who eagerly wished for humanity to embrace the Greater Good. The situation escalated, resulting in a complete quarantine of Realas and the descent of the world into chaos and ruin.

But Realas held a darker secret beneath the waves. When the survivors ventured into the submerged city of Helmar, they uncovered a network of underwater caves filled with dormant machines of unknown origin. The investigation into these depths led to the disappearance of Inquisitor Ho and several Deathwatch squads, revealing the ominous presence of the Necrons once more.

Our tour ends with the world of Sovereign, currently under the control of the Dark Mechanicum Herex, but in truth, a waking Necron tomb world of the Suba Dynasty. Once an agrarian world, Sovereign experienced an unanticipated arrival of numerous chronicles. Despite the upheavals of the Age of Strife, the inhabitants of Sovereign managed to survive comfortably, thanks to the agriculture cultivated by the Savin.

Stay tuned, dear readers, for our next deep dive into the worlds of Warhammer 40,000, where the line between life and death is often blurred, and the universe is anything but peaceful. Until then, keep your bolters loaded and your faith in the Emperor strong!
