Welcome back, fans of the grim dark future! Today, we’re delving into the fascinating and fearsome world of the Striis, a mysterious species that dwells within the limitless void of the cosmos. Among the Striis, ownership and specialization go hand in hand, with some ruling over vast space caravans, asteroid hives, armies of slaves, and genetically engineered laborers.
Slave owners trade in living commodities, technocrats hoard and safeguard technological marvels, raid masters orchestrate plundering missions, and Geno owners – well, they indulge in the creation of life itself, growing slaves in vats and tinkering with the genetic code. These bizarre beings sell their genetically modified creations at exorbitant prices, further fueling their insatiable appetite for power and wealth.
Slavery is deeply ingrained in Striis society, with enslaved humans, kroot, gretchin, and countless other unfortunate beings regarded as mere property. Some slaves are consigned to menial labor, while others find themselves thrust into the limelight as warriors and bodyguards. Slave warriors are often sent on dangerous missions, their lives deemed disposable in the eyes of their Striis overlords. Promises of freedom and doses of combat drugs serve as incentives, but this freedom remains an elusive dream for most.
It’s a grim existence, but it’s worth noting that Striis slaves are surprisingly well-treated – at least, compared to the grim conditions found within the Empire. Their living quarters are often superior, but don’t mistake this for kindness. The Striis are not generous; they are practical, viewing their slaves as valuable commodities to be maintained.
Of course, the Striis have a darker side, using brutal methods to ensure obedience. Collars that can strangle their wearers, neck bombs, and even brain implants that can induce excruciating pain are commonplace. The Striis also dabble in the creation of artificial slaves, often sticking to the humanoid template but modifying as needed, implanting necessary tools or weapons directly into their living creations.
Turning our attention to their armory, the Striis favor ethereal weapons – think spears, swords, and whips made of raw, volatile energy. These weapons are shrouded in mystery, their existence often dismissed as mere legends, but experienced Free Traders know better. The Striis themselves often wield these ethereal weapons, while their slave soldiers are equipped with firearms, including light rifles and pistols capable of emitting concentrated energy beams.
While the Striis can sometimes be of use to humanity, it’s important to remember that they are deceitful and profit-driven. They are the dark horses of the cosmos, always prioritizing their own interests above all else.
Joining the Striis under the spotlight today are the Locksatle, a race of non-humanoid aliens frequently found serving as mercenaries, pirates, and renegades. These reptilian creatures move on four crooked limbs and are capable of standing taller than the average human. They have yellow eyes, wide jaws filled with teeth, and purple tongues that are constantly quivering, tasting the air for the faintest hint of prey.
The Locksatle are excellent scouts and trackers, capable of sensing enemies from kilometers away and pinpointing foes by their footsteps and heartbeats. They’re also adept climbers, capable of launching surprise attacks from walls and ceilings. In battle, they employ unique blasters, worn on their back and fired through a mind impulse device, leaving all four limbs free. These blasters fire shotgun-like blasts of millions of monomolecular shards, capable of shredding through armor and flesh with ease.
Locksatle operate in small, familial groups led by a matriarch, using subsonic vibrations to communicate. Their presence is often betrayed by a unique smell, a mix of sour milk and mint. Despite their alien nature and often hostile actions, they add another layer of complexity to the rich tapestry of the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
Stay tuned for more in-depth explorations of the myriad species and factions in this grim and fascinating universe. Until next time, remember – in the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war.
