Eidolon – Progenitor of the Noise Marines – Part 3

Title: “The Descent into Chaos: The Tale of Eidolon and the Epic Battles of Isstvan III & V”

In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium, the ebb and flow of power often hinges on the actions of key individuals, their choices, and the battles they fight. In this blog post, we delve into the life of Eidolon, the Lord Commander of the Emperor’s Children, and his significant contributions to the tragic events on Isstvan III and Isstvan V. This is part of our multi-part series looking at the pivotal characters and moments in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

Eidolon, the Lord Commander, was a pivotal figure in the battles that marked the turning point in the Horus Heresy. One of these was the battle on Isstvan III, a campaign conducted jointly with the Death Guard. During this battle, Eidolon discovered and utilised a newfound ability. When Captain Nathaniel Garro found himself overwhelmed by a psyker, Eidolon intervened and used a monstrous sound wave to sweep away the enemy. This was just the beginning of Eidolon’s descent into chaos.

The Isstvan III campaign was marred by betrayal and bloodshed. When the Warmaster Horus ordered the purge of the ranks of conspirators, the forces of the Emperor’s Children and Death Guard stormed the capital. The ensuing orbital bombardment resulted in the tragic death of the civilian population, approximately 12 billion souls, who died an agonising death from viral weapons. The loyalist brothers, forewarned by Saul Tarvitz and Nathaniel Garro, took refuge before the viral bombs were dropped, heralding the start of a brutal three-month battle for survival.

The traitors, however, were not without their own internal struggles. Tensions rose when Lucius betrayed the loyalists, providing the traitors with open access to the Loyalists’ Eastern flank. This led to a series of intense battles, with Eidolon himself killing the wounded. The onslaught of attacks continued until the surviving loyalists were finally broken by a subsequent orbital bombardment. However, they died knowing they had taken many of their once brothers-in-arms with them.

The battle on Istvan V, also known as the Dropsite Massacre, marked the next significant step in Eidolon’s journey. The Warmaster tasked Fulgrim with organising a defence system, resulting in a bloody battle against the first and second waves of loyalist forces. The loyalists fought valiantly but were ultimately trapped between two enemy armies and mercilessly slaughtered. Eidolon, alongside Lucius, fought at the front line, carving a path of destruction until the bloodshed ended with the grim sight of the loyalist legions strewn across the black sands of Isstvan V.

Eidolon’s fate took a tragic turn in the aftermath of the massacre. When Fulgrim chose to strike at Prismatica 5 instead of obeying the Warmaster’s orders to go to Mars, Eidolon dared to criticise the Primarch’s decision. This act of defiance cost Eidolon his life when Fulgrim decapitated him in a fit of rage. However, in a moment of regret, Fulgrim ordered the senior Apothecary, Fabius Bile, to revive Eidolon. Despite the grim circumstances, Fabius was able to restore the fallen Lord Commander, marking another chapter in the twisted tale of Eidolon.

As we continue to explore the tumultuous history of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, remember this tale of Eidolon. His story serves as a reminder of the high cost of power and the tragic consequences of treachery in a universe at war. Stay tuned for the next instalment of our series where we’ll delve deeper into the intricate lore of the Warhammer universe.
