Few more words about Daemon Engines – Part 4

Title: “The Blood Thrones of Khorne: A Sanguinary Symphony of Slaughter!”

Picture this, if you will: a panorama of absolute mayhem where statues of once-glorious ancient warriors are doused in fresh, vibrant blood. A veritable symphony of slaughter, so intense that it tears open a rift in the fabric of reality itself, making way for a whole legion of Khorne’s followers to spill into our material plane. This was the horrifying scene witnessed on the ill-fated world of Bengoli, where the scale of the invasion was so devastating, it left the Ordo Mālus with the grim task of enforcing Exterminatus on the doomed planet.

Emerging from this chaotic fray is a sight that would strike terror into the hearts of the bravest Astartes – the Blood Thrones of Khorne. These monstrous constructions, resembling less of a throne and more of a carnage-filled chariot of destruction, are said to mirror the very seat of Khorne himself. These demonic engines, bound in copper and charging into battle on iron wheels, leave nothing but crushed bodies and maimed foes in their wake. The victims’ cries are almost drowned out by the cacophony of grinding gears, clanking pistons, and the roar of the demonic furnace powering these terrifying machines.

Yet, amidst this horror, consider the sheer scale of bloodshed and atrocity a Herald of Khorne must commit to earn a place upon these Blood Thrones. Such a blasphemous reward is not granted lightly. Legends whisper that each Blood Throne is forged from a piece of bronze chipped from the sacred throne of the Blood God himself, and is imbued with a fragment of his eternally boiling rage.

The Heralds of Khorne, also known as the Slaughter Masters, do not lounge upon these thrones like mortal lords. Instead, they ceaselessly scan their surroundings with a predatory hunger, their eyes spinning wildly, lips licking in anticipation of fresh slaughter while their chariots roll forward. Their battle-ready bloodletters, driven into a frenzy by the scent of blood, show no regard for strategy. Instead, they relentlessly advance in pursuit of skulls and bloodshed.

The Herald, from his sinister seat, scans the battlefield for an enemy whose skull might become the most impressive offering to Khorne. Then, with a howl of unspeakable joy, he thrusts his Blood Throne forward, raising his blood blade for the strike. When the Blood Throne reaches enemy ranks, it plows through like a monstrous plow, leaving only pulverized remains in its wake.

The skulls of the slain are of particular interest. While all blood is equal in the eyes of Khorne, the skulls of cowards are fed to the sinister mechanism of the Blood Thrones, consumed by fire to empower the demonic engine anew. In contrast, the skulls of the truly brave are collected by the Herald and embedded into the throne – an eternal reminder of the futility of resistance to Khorne.

As a result, the most ancient Blood Thrones carry skulls from a variety of victims, including the Masters of Space Marine Chapters, the Archons of Commorragh, and military leaders of the Ork race. Records in the Black Library hint at demonic Skull Cannons, war machines forged in the forges at the foot of the Blood God’s throne. These sinister mechanisms are so lethal and efficient that some within the Ordo Mālus believe these cannons were forged by Khorne himself, a monstrous fusion of demonic power and deadly intent.

The Blood Thrones of Khorne are thus a testament to the sheer scale of bloodshed and eternal rage that the followers of the Blood God are capable of. A horrifying spectacle, indeed, but also a stark reminder of the power of the Chaos Gods and the ever-present threat they pose to the Imperium of Man.
