Imperium Secundus: How The Lion Betrayed His Brothers – Part 12

Welcome, one and all, to the next riveting chapter of our multi-part series diving deep into the annals of Warhammer 40,000 lore. Today, we delve into the heart of an ancient conflict, a shattered sword, and the echoes of an empire that time has all but forgotten.

Picture the scene: The Lion, Primarch of the Dark Angels, hurling accusations like a storm, his every word a thunderclap. His brother, the Night Haunter, cackles from the shadows, his dark laughter fuel to the roaring fire of their confrontation. The eighth Legion’s Primarch finds himself held at metaphorical sword-point, the Lion’s wrath looming over him like the blade of the Lion Sword itself.

Yet, it was the gaze of Sanguinius, as fierce as it was sorrowful, that held the Lion’s hand. His intervention, a pivotal moment in the history of the Imperium, saved a brother from a brother’s wrath. This moment of hesitation allowed Roboute Guilliman, the Avenging Son, to seize the spotlight.

In a display of raw emotion, Guilliman snatched the Lion Sword from his brother’s grasp and, with a strength born of betrayal and anger, shattered it over his knee. His words to his brother, “A sword for a vow, is this what your honour is worth, Knight of Caliban?” echoed in the stunned silence, as did the sound of the shattered remnants of the sword hitting the floor.

This event was the beginning of the end for the triumvirate. Guilliman’s dream of a new, just human state shattered as definitively as the Lion’s Sword. The actions of the Lion, impulsive and rash, had unwittingly set in motion a chain of events that could have changed the fate of the entire human race.

This, however, is where our tale takes a turn. Despite the bitter disappointment and broken dreams, the actions of the Lion, Sanguinius, and Guilliman played significant roles in the ultimate defeat of the traitors. The subsequent reorganization of life in the post-war Imperium owes much to their contributions.

Yet, the memory of these deeds has faded with time, overshadowed by a disappointment that transformed the once majestic Imperium Secundus into a shamefully forgotten empire. For millennia, Guilliman was the only one who remembered the Fallen Empire, until the awakening of the Lion brought another into the fold.

Recent events have hinted at a resurgence of these ancient conflicts and secrets. The demon of Nurgle, Rigus, unveiled an ancient tome to Majoris Fabian Guin, titled “The Reign of Emperor Sanguinius.” This event sparked a new plague—a plague of doubt—that poses a threat far greater than any physical disease.

Will the actions of the three brothers, who dared to doubt their father’s power, be viewed as ambitious greed or a desperate bid for survival in the wake of the Horus Heresy? Only time will tell.

As we continue our journey through the lore of Warhammer 40,000, we look forward to unraveling more mysteries, exploring forgotten histories, and diving deeper into the complex relationships of the Primarchs. Until our next chapter, may the Emperor protect you.
