Tempestus Scions: The Imperium’s Finest Shock Troops – Part 8

Welcome back, warriors of the Imperium, to another installment in our Warhammer 40,000 series. Today, we’re delving into the gritty world of the infamous Katakans and the famed Kasrkin of the Cadian Shock Troops Regiments.

On the far-flung world of Katakans, we find regiments of hardened troops known as the Katakans Devils. Swift and deadly, these Special Forces squads are notorious for their kill knives, paying homage to the voracious predators of their world, which they emulate in combat. Squads typically consist of a veteran sergeant, four to nine Katakans Devil Guardsmen, and occasionally a veteran Katakans officer. Among these deadliest of warriors is Sly Marau, a man celebrated as a one-man army – a testament to his fearsome fighting prowess.

On the other side of the cosmos, we encounter the elite Kasrkin, the cream of the Cadian Shock Troops Regiments. The Kasrkin, whose name is derived from the heavily fortified cities of Cadia (known as Kazas in the Cadian dialect of Low Gothic), are deeply ingrained into the Imperial Guard structure, being the elites of the Cadian Planetary Defense Forces. With training that rivals, if not surpasses, that of standard Militarum Tempestus Storm Troopers, the Kasrkin are utterly dedicated to the preservation of Cadia. They exhibit a strict ethos of duty, honor, and unyielding devotion to the Emperor that is impressive even for members of the Astra Militarum.

These elite soldiers don not only the more advanced carapace armor but also the respect of their fellow Cadian troopers. The Kasrkin led the defense of Cadia against the forces of Chaos during the early days of Abaddon the Despoiler’s 13th Black Crusade in 999.M41. Being a Kasrkin is a position of honor in Cadian society, a truth recognized by all Cadians, even in the aftermath of their beloved world’s destruction.

But the elite fighters of the Imperium aren’t limited to these regiments. Planetary Defense Forces across the galaxy also have their own Special Operations units, often known as Kill Squads. These squads are some of the deadliest formations within planetary enforces, trained to the same elite level as standard Stormtroopers, particularly on wealthy and technologically advanced Imperial planets. On some worlds, where the rule of the Planetary Governor is harsh and dictatorial, the Kill Squad Troopers are often seen as the hated embodiments of tyranny.

The Militarum Tempestus is famed for its use of the versatile Taurox Primes, vehicles that deliver the wrath of the Imperium across all manner of hazardous war zones and through nearly impossible conditions. Many Taurox Primes have gained notoriety for their roles in remarkable victories, often painted in regiment colors and given colorful names.

The forces of the Militarum Tempestus also extensively utilize the Valkyrie Assault Carrier, a perfect match for the Scions’ training and mission indoctrination. The speed, versatility, and firepower of the Valkyrie gunship make it an invaluable asset during combat operations.

Finally, no discussion of the Imperium’s elite would be complete without mentioning the Tempestus Scions. Their wargear is far superior to the rugged utilitarian weaponry of the Astra Militarum, requiring specialist training and maintenance for each piece of kit. Only after passing a series of tests and earning the appropriate honors is a Scion allowed to use a hot-shot lasgun in battlefield conditions. Each time a weapon or piece of wargear is mastered, its icon is branded into the Scion’s chest as a permanent sign of competence. The Tempestus Scions’ carapace armor, made from molded plates of armaplas, ceramite, or other strong but lightweight materials, is a symbol of status, often worn by Imperial officers and agents.

In the next installment of our series, we’ll delve more deeply into the weaponry, tactics, and history of these elite fighters. Stay tuned, warriors of the Imperium, as we continue our journey through the grim darkness of the far future.
