In the grim darkness of the far future, where there is only war, there exists a particular regiment of soldiers that personify the very essence of bravery, tenacity, and an unwavering commitment to duty. They are the Death Korps of Krieg, known for their distinct death riders. This is a tale of their audacity, their attire, and their armament.
Born from the war-torn world of Krieg, the Death Riders, unlike their counterparts from other regiments, eschew guerilla tactics and lightning strikes. They are reminiscent of the heavy cavalry of ancient Terra, charging headlong into enemy ranks, crushing anything and anyone daring enough to stand against them. Their reputation precedes them, terrifying opponents to the point where many would rather flee than face the impending doom that is the Death Riders.
One of the Death Riders’ defining characteristics is their unyielding resolve. They never retreat. They fight until victory is theirs, or until they meet their end on the battlefield. Only the most resolute or highly respected officer can halt their charge.
The Death Korps of Krieg soldiers are kitted out with the best equipment available. Apart from the engineers, all guardsmen wear a standard uniform of a heavy coat, trousers, and boots, all treated with neutralizing compounds. The engineers, however, opt for short jackets for the convenience of working in tunnels.
Every guardsman wears a standard Mark 9 helmet made of plasteel, designed specifically for compatibility with a gas mask. This feature often leads to the Death Korps being mistaken for the Steel Legion. Each soldier also carries a variety of gear and antidotes, as well as a small folding shovel for trench-digging.
Their grenadiers and engineers, unlike common guardsmen, are clad in carapace armor and modified Mark 9 helmets. The Death Riders wear the same uniform but with additional distinctive features. They don heavy plasteel breastplates with chromed overlays, a tribute to tradition rather than protection. For comfort in the saddle, they have tall boots, which have become quite popular among Krieg’s officer corps.
The officers’ uniforms are practically identical to the standard ones but are made from superior materials with some embellishments. For protection, they’re equipped with special gorgets, which are conversion field generators. Their helmets can be adorned with either the Aquila or the imperial skull, symbols of their rank and status.
When it comes to weaponry, the Death Korps of Krieg are not lacking. The standard infantry armament includes the Lucius Pattern 98 Lasguns and 45 cm bayonets, whereas the grenadiers and engineers are armed with a variety of explosives and heavier weaponry. Death Riders, on the other hand, wield explosive-tipped lances, heavy sabers, and las pistols.
The officers carry more ceremonial weapons, reflecting their past experiences and circumstances. Many who once led squadrons of Death Riders still carry sabers, while others prefer lasguns or shotguns. However, in a dire situation, they will always reach for what’s more familiar.
This tale came straight from the mouth of a seasoned captain, who, after a sip of lukewarm recaf, tossed the rest onto the barren ground. With a conspiratorial wink to his subordinates, he headed towards the command tent, aiming to secure a stronger brew from the company’s colonel.
Thus, the saga of the Death Korps of Krieg and their Death Riders continues. An unyielding force, they stand as a testament to the relentless spirit of humanity in the darkest of futures, where there is only war.
