The Hierarchy of Adeptus Mechanicus – Part 10

In the grim darkness of the far future, there’s no shortage of heroes, villains, and everything in between. But today, we’re diving into the depths of the Adeptus Mechanicus, the machine cult that keeps the Imperium of Man running. Specifically, we’re focusing on the Auxilia Myrmidon, Skitarii Legion, and the infamous Legio Cybernetica.

Unveiling the enigmatic Auxilia Myrmidon, we begin with the Myrmidon Secutor, a formidable soldier serving under the distant Arc Megos Masters. The term ‘Secutor’ itself is steeped in history, tracing its roots back to the organization of the Sect of Octus and the armed forces of the Mechanicum of Mars. This connection to the Age of Strife adds a certain mystique to these warriors, especially when coupled with their use of ancient and terrifying weapons, remnants of a distant past.

Among the ranks of the Myrmidon Secutor, you’ll find those drawn to the path for varying reasons. Some relish the intellectual challenges warfare presents, while others are captivated by the dichotomy of creation and destruction, the beauty that lies in the sacred art of the forge. Yet, some see this path as a means to an end – whether it’s to protect the Cult of the Machine, advance personal research, or for hidden purposes we can only guess. Their loyalty might be questionable, but their value as allies to an Inquisitor is undeniable.

From the Auxilia Myrmidon, we switch gears to the Skitarii Legion, known as the Tech-Guard. These cybernetic soldiers are the armed forces of the Adeptus Mechanicus, taking pride in their holy work. Armed with precision targeting systems and weaponry that can turn a battlefield into a radioactive wasteland, the Skitarii are a force to be reckoned with.

Unrelenting and unwavering, the Skitarii march across war zones, their titanium limbs carrying them forward, driven by their faith in the Omnissiah. They are the silent protectors of the Mechanicus’ forge worlds, manufacturing facilities, and exploration vessels. They are the shield safeguarding the massive war machines of the Centuria Ordinatus and Titans from boarding actions. Wherever they are needed, the Skitarii are there, a relentless tide of rusted ants, ready to defend the Machine God’s sacred creations.

Our journey doesn’t end there. We delve deeper into the ancient origins of the Myrmidon Cybernetica, one of the oldest divisions of the Adeptus Mechanicus. The Legio Cybernetica is responsible for deploying fully autonomous combat drones, supporting the Imperial armed forces. They trace their lineage back to a time when Mars was an independent Empire, ruled by the tech-priests of the Cult Mechanicus.

However, the Schism of Mars saw the Legio Cybernetica divided, with traitorous elements siding with the forces of the Warmaster and fleeing to the Eye of Terror. The loyalist remnant of the Legio Cybernetica reaffirmed their loyalty to the Imperium, continuing to serve faithfully.

The Legio Cybernetica was once notorious for creating automatons with independent thought, a practice that led to disastrous consequences and was subsequently outlawed. But that’s a tale for another time.

The Adeptus Mechanicus is a complex web of factions, each with its own history and role in the grand theatre of the Warhammer 40,000 universe. The Myrmidon Secutors, the Skitarii Legion, and the Legio Cybernetica are but a few threads in that web, each with a story that’s as fascinating as it is grim. Stay tuned for more as we continue to unravel the mysteries of the Machine Cult.
