Typhus’ Corruption: The Fall of the Death Guard’s Hero – Part 12

From the vast reaches of the cosmos, the tale of Typhus, the Herald of Nurgle, continues. As Typhus surveyed the orbit around Ixis, he ordered the annihilation of the fugitives below. However, a surprise awaited him – an unnoticed ship of the Shriven, a formidable force in the void. The enemy barge, in a sudden twist of fate, decimated the Moribond, a frigate that had already been heavily battered and was moving towards a rendezvous point with the evacuation transports.

Typhus was filled with a burning rage, his insides buzzing with destructive swarms of flies. The thought of his forces being dwarfed by the combined might of the Shriven was unbearable. For a fleeting moment, he considered pressing on with the attack. But cooler heads prevailed, and he ordered a retreat instead. Typhus, being a seasoned veteran, knew that by consolidating and bolstering his remaining forces, he could still complete his hunt successfully. After all, he had a knack for pursuing retreating adversaries.

Typhus then set his sights on the planet Desa, where his quarry had fled. On his voyage to Desa, Typhus was far from idle, launching an assault on the SST he encountered. Gathering resources to repair his damaged ships, he also replenished his ranks with cultists and plague zombies. Meanwhile, Fabius and his followers were preparing for the impending attack, the plague fleet’s arrival in the system was imminent.

Typhus was not only after the Arc Cor Contagious, but he was also out for revenge. The Shriven’s ships attempted a similar sudden attack, activating night shields crafted from Xenotech from Comra. But Typhus had a trick up his sleeve. He had dispersed tracker entities across his fleet, each carrying the warp scent of the Shriven. As a result, when the camouflaged ships tried to strike, they found enemy weapons already trained on them.

The void was soon filled with chains of explosions and gunfire, and the hulls of ships rained down onto Desa in a deadly hail. In the ensuing chaos, the battle barge Drake Rampant tried to strike the Terminus EST but was overwhelmed and crashed onto Desa’s surface. With the enemy distracted, the rest of the Death Guard fleet unleashed a deadly arsenal onto Desa, damaging the void shields of the first bastion. Then, Typhus and his forces landed, leading the assault with hordes of plague zombies.

In the midst of this epic clash, another threat loomed in altivar – the torch bearer’s fleet. The shield captain quickly devised a plan to circumnavigate Desa from the shadow side, avoiding a direct collision with the Death Guard’s flotilla. If they failed, they were doomed – they were outnumbered, and their ships were seriously damaged.

The Custodes and the Sisters of Silence launched a surprise attack on the Death Guard’s rear, engaging demonic engines and hordes of the dead. Battle epicenters formed beyond the bastion walls, and within ten minutes, Typhus’ main armored force was decimated. The Loyalists advanced towards the breach in the wall, their goal clear – eliminate the sorcerer Argento Coran, known as the Enlightener.

Meanwhile, Fabius Bile, the infamous heretic, was recognized during the battles on Baron Prime. The Custodians, led by Tyer, knew that Bile had to be eliminated before he could escape. Fabius, however, had other plans. As his servants started to slowly disable the reactor that powered the entire complex, Fabius completed his preparations and prepared to leave the laboratory. The slow destruction of the core was triggered, and Fabius had no intention of staying around to witness the cataclysm. The stage is set for the next thrilling encounter in this multi-part saga of Warhammer 40,000!
