Title: The Last Stand of Cadia: A Chronicle of the 13th Black Crusade
In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war. This grim adage has never rung truer than during the cataclysmic events of the 13th Black Crusade. On the embattled planet of Cadia, the Ecclesiastical Delegation, a devout conclave of thousands of preachers, continued their sacred mission. Their zealous sermons, a beacon of hope amidst the chaotic cacophony of war, echoed through the battlefield, at times even overpowering the thunderous symphony of enemy artillery.
Meanwhile, a company of Space Marines from the Subjugate Chapter, their ranks tragically depleted, chose to make Cadia their final stand. They vowed to retreat only when all hope was extinguished, a testament to their unwavering loyalty to the Emperor. In a macabre dance of destruction, Astra Militarum engineers laid munitions at the heart of the port, ready to ensure its obliteration if necessary.
Above Cadia, the formidable Imperial Fleet prepared for its ultimate battle. The stakes were higher than ever; their failure would spell the doom of Cadia, its brave defenders, and potentially the entirety of the Imperium. The insidious Abaddon had orchestrated the 13th Black Crusade with this moment in mind, hoping to succeed where his master Horus had once failed.
The orbital combat commenced, the toll on the Imperium’s defenders was devastating. Yet, they persevered, understanding the magnitude of their mission. Amidst the chaos, Admiral Quarin, commander of the Imperial Fleet, reported catastrophic losses, with many vessels making the ultimate sacrifice to thwart the minions of the Dark Gods.
However, the tide of battle took an unexpected turn. A fleet of Necron vessels, seemingly materializing from the void, assaulted both the Blackstone Fortress and the chaos War Fleet. The Imperial records of this encounter are fragmented, the chaos of battle obscuring the details. Yet, their impact was undeniable. The Necron ships, alongside their unwitting Imperial allies, forced the Blackstone Fortress to withdraw and consequently, the remaining Chaos vessels retreated.
On Cadia, the rallying cry of victory echoed. The Imperial Defenders reclaimed their sacred soil, purging the taint of Chaos, albeit temporarily.
In the heart of this war-ravaged planet, the enigmatic Cadia pylons, ancient structures of unknown origin, stood firm. Over 5,000 of these mysterious monoliths, each towering 500 yards above the ground and plunging 250 yards below, dotted the landscape. The Adeptus Mechanicus, despite millennia of research, have only been able to decipher fragments of their purpose or origin.
Some theories suggest the Necrontyr or their Necron successors as the creators, while others argue they were built by the Old Ones to annihilate the Necrons and their former C’tan overlords. One point of consensus, however, is the pylons’ role in stabilizing the warp corridor known as the Cadian Gate. The enigma of the pylons deepened with their unanticipated role in the final days of Cadia, adding another layer of mystery to this captivating chapter of the 40k universe.
