In a riveting episode from the annals of the 36th Millennium, the formidable Black Templars – alongside their progenitors, the Imperial Fists, the zealous Fire Hawks, and elements of the Martian Tech Guard – launched an audacious assault on Terra itself, laying siege to Vander’s Ecclesial Palace.
This epic campaign was not merely a test of strength, but a trial of fortitude, as the Imperial preacher Sebastian Thor, the Space Marines, and their allies besieged the Ecclesial Palace for months, yet failed to penetrate its impenetrable defenses. Amidst this arduous struggle, Emperor Champion Navar of the Black Templars stepped forward, seizing the banner of the fallen Chapter Banaba and inspiring his brothers to redouble their efforts.
Chapter Master Larian of the Imperial Fists, recognizing Navar’s courage and bravery, honored him with the title of ‘Captain of the Banner’. Thus, it was from this crucible of conflict that legends were born, and the Black Templars etched their name in the annals of history.
But the tale does not end there. Kel Brandt Aldrick, originally a member of the Black Templars, rose to become the captain of the Imperial Fists’ 8th Company during the chapter’s rebuilding in the War of the Beast. Under Aldrick’s leadership, the 8th Company adopted a fiery approach to combat, mirroring his former Black Templar tactics of direct and aggressive assaults.
Upon the death of the Grandmaster of Assassins, Dren Van Goric, the Imperial Fists were scattered to address the rebellions that erupted across the Imperium. It was during these conflicts that the 8th Company proved its mettle, earning numerous battle honors under Aldrick’s command, across the Segmentum Obscurus. The fiery leadership style of Wolf Lord Harold Firo further fueled Aldrick’s aggressive approach, resulting in a unique and effective blend of tactics.
However, the 8th Company’s transformation did not sit well with all. Maximus Th, the newly elected Chapter Master of the Imperial Fists, intended to rectify the deviation from standard tactics. The 8th Company was subsequently disbanded and Alder demoted from his captaincy.
Yet, discipline prevailed. The members of the former 8th Company exhibited a level of discipline surpassing even the most stoic of the Imperial Fists. Recognizing the effectiveness of Alder’s methods, Th reinstated Aldri as Captain and maintained the battle tactics he’d introduced within the 8th Company.
The story of the Black Templars and the Imperial Fists would be incomplete without the mention of Sigismund, the first captain of the Imperial Fist Legion during the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy eras. Born on Terra and inducted into the Leones Aares at the peak of the Great Crusade, Sigismund rose to fame due to his unmatched combat skills. He was a warrior supreme, embodying the ethos of the Great Crusade’s noble conquest. His unmatched skill and fervor led him to command the Templars of the legion’s first company, placing him in the most exalted position within the Imperial Fists, second only to Rogal Dorn.
Following the tragic events of the Heresy, the Space Marine Legions were divided into smaller chapters, and Sigismund became the first High Marshal of the newly formed Black Templar chapter. His legacy serves as a beacon to all those who pledge themselves to the Imperium.
