Ferrus Manus: The Strongest of Them All? – Part 7

Title: “The Battle Within: Ferah Manus, the Gorgon’s Quest”

At the heart of the Imperium, a dream was harbored – a world of peace, a respite from the eternal war. This dream, held by the mighty Gorgon, Ferah Manus himself, seemed inconceivable in his tumultuous existence. Yet, amidst this chaos, there was an odd sense of solace. The haunting sight of his own fallen doppelgangers brought an unexpected mirth, with the Primarch humorously proclaiming he could have crafted them with more grace and beauty.

This jesting echoed the spirit of Fulgrim, stirring memories within the Gorgon as he ventured deeper into the macabre landscape. The halls echoed with the chilling chorus of accusing voices, each emanating from the lifeless heads of his replicas. They taunted him, some brushing against him with their lips, others attempting to bite, all calling him weak, ‘an unnecessary son’.

Back on Medusa, he was a king, the most powerful warrior. Yet, his ascension as the Primarch saw him become one among many. These alien thoughts tested the Gorgon, urging him to compare himself to his brothers, to the likes of Horus the Glorious, Sanguinius the Magnificent, the chosen sons. But Ferah was not swayed by vanity, he knew his purpose was significant in the great Crusade, and he took pride in his role, bestowed upon him by the Emperor himself.

In the midst of his introspection, he found himself wielding a blade, a gift once forged by his brother Vulcan. The silvery figure of a serpent, a ghostly specter reminiscent of his battle with Aseno, slithered around him. Ferah, believing himself bitten, cut his skin to draw out the poison, all while the eerie echoes of his own voice filled the space around him, tormenting and insinuating madness.

His journey led him to a grand hall, a place that bore the semblance of a majestic yet decaying palace and a golden tomb. At its center, a throne, shrouded in ancient cobwebs, seated the skeletal remains of a giant king, a ruler of a crumbling Empire. The Gorgon believed this to be his next opponent. Yet, the cadaver remained still, and instead, he was met again with Aseno, or rather, a deceptive entity bearing its form.

The silver entity transformed, revealing a face familiar to Ferah. The deceit was clear, the Xenos wished for him to believe his brother, Fulgrim, was his enemy. With certainty and unwavering resolve, Ferah vanquished the monster bearing his brother’s visage, then proceeded to destroy the skeletal king and his throne, revealing a portal to the infinite cosmos.

Before him, a planet ignited, transforming into a charred sphere, a terrifying sight reminiscent of his dreams of the Black Sands battle. An Eldar appeared, prophesying this burning world as Ferah’s future. Yet, it claimed there was an alternative path, one that could lead to the salvation of the galaxy. The Xenos pleaded, calling Ferah a friend, begging him to understand his importance, that he held the power to bring hope.

But the Gorgon was resolute. He was aware of his destined end, aware of his role and duty. He refused to submit to fate like the Xenos, he was a man who forged his own path. Ignoring the Elder’s pleas, he chose death as a warrior over the words of an alien. With a furious roar, he shattered the psychic labyrinth constructed around him, attacked the Eldar, and broke free. The Xenos, realizing their plan had failed, fled, leaving the Gorgon once again in solitude.

The battle within Ferah Manus was far from over, but his unwavering resolve, his refusal to bow to fate, and his steadfast loyalty to his role in the great Crusade echoed his indomitable spirit. His journey serves as a testament to his strength, not only as a Primarch, but as the Gorgon, the King of Medusa, the man who forged his own path.
