Welcome back, fellow lore enthusiasts, to yet another chapter in our thrilling multi-part series, where we delve into the depths of the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Today, we will focus on the gripping saga of Ultramar’s restoration and the Teran Crusade’s journey to Terror.
In the aftermath of the Horus Heresy, Ultramar was set to reclaim its former glory. It stood as a miniature Stellar Empire, encompassing 500 human-settled worlds. At the helm was the primarch himself, whose strategic genius was unleashed upon the forces of Chaos on Mcra. His loyalist forces took full control, driving the adversary off Mcra and most of Ultramar within a span of seven solar months.
With Ultramar momentarily secure, Gillman, the primarch, decided it was time to journey to Terra. His destination was to meet his father, the Emperor, a meeting that was 10 millennia in the making. Gathering forces from across the Imperium, he assembled a massive Imperial Crusade Fleet, leaving Ultramar in the capable hands of Manus Calgar.
However, their journey was not without obstacles. Near the great warp rift known as the Maelstrom, their fleet was intercepted by a Chaos fleet led by the demon primarch, Magnus the Red, and his Thousand Sons Traitor Legion. A potent sorcerous ritual cast by Magnus flung the Teran Crusade Fleet into the Maelstrom with no apparent escape, leading to a tormented journey from one Demon World to another.
During this tumultuous period, Gillman’s guilt and frustration grew, weighing down his psyche. Despite their best efforts, they found it impossible to escape the Maelstrom. Yet, hope emerged from an unlikely source – a psychic message from the Eldari Farseer Eldrad Ulthran, now an ally of the Ynnari. He offered a series of landmarks for the Imperial Fleet to follow and escape the warp rift.
However, when the Crusade reached the Starship graveyard marking the passage back to real space, they encountered another massive Chaos fleet. This time led by the Red Corsair and the Lord of Change, Kairos Fateweaver. Fateweaver used his psychic powers to wrap Gillman in chains crafted from his own guilt, ultimately forcing the rest of the Imperial Fleet to surrender.
In dire straits, the Terran Crusade found themselves taken to a Blackstone Fortress hidden in the Maelstrom. They would have been trapped there for eternity had it not been for an intervention from an unexpected source – the Aeldari Harlequins, led by the Shadow Seer Candra Veilwalker, and Cypher, the mysterious Fallen Angel.
Veilwalker offered another path to Terra through the webway gate at the heart of the massive xenos star fortress. Yet, the journey was not without its perils. Upon opening the webway exit in the Sol System, they were met with the forces of the Thousand Sons.
However, with aid from the Harlequin and other Imperial forces, Gillman and his Terran Crusade survivors managed to overwhelm the Thousand Sons. They cast Magnus back through the webway portal, sealing it permanently to prevent any future threats to the throne world of the Imperium.
Finally, they reached Terra. Gillman was escorted to the Imperial Palace and he met with his father, the Emperor of mankind. The details of their conversation remain unknown. But when the Primarch emerged, he declared that he was taking up the mantle of Lord Commander of the Imperium once more.
In the convoluted cosmos of Warhammer 40,000, Gillman’s promise to assemble the greatest fleet and armies to take the fight to Chaos and revive the Emperor’s lost dream of a better future for humanity echoes loudly. Stay tuned for more exciting tales from the Warhammer 40,000 universe in our upcoming posts.
