Ogryns: Guardians or Monsters? – Part 8

The Unseen Valor of the Mongor Ogin Auxilia

The galaxy of Warhammer 40,000 never fails to astound us with its diversity and complexity, and the Mongor Ogin Auxilia is a testament to that. As an abhuman Imperial Guard regiment, they hail from the troubled world of Mongor, a planet that has recently been a thorn in the side of the Imperium due to a large percentage of the Ogin population turning traitor. Even as they rebel, the Angels of Redemption Space Marine chapter has been hastily redirected to the planet to quell the insubordination.

However, amidst this turmoil, one regiment has remained fiercely loyal to the Imperium. This loyalist faction has been dispatched to the battle for the hive city of Hell reach on Armageddon. Here, the question of loyalty takes a backseat to the imminent threat of invasion. These abhumans, despite their peculiarities, appear to be devoted to the Emperor’s cause and have shown remarkable valor and force of arms. Yet, they remain under intense surveillance by the Imperium, a move indicative of the trust issues that have been plaguing the relationship between the abhumans and the Imperium.

A Mysterious Abhuman Regiment

Official Imperial records provide very little insight into this abhuman regiment, making them an enigma within the vast expanse of the Imperium. Among the abhumans, the Oran Stone Crushers, also an Ogin abhuman Imperial Guard regiment, have managed to make a name for themselves. They hail from the high gravity world of Orcus, located in the Cxus sector, and were discovered by the Imperium following the Anin Crusade.

The Ogin population embraced the Imperial Creed with open arms, and several Ogin regiments were raised in the aftermath of the Imperium’s retaking of Orcus from the traitorous Sever and Dominate forces. Among the Ogin, Norc Deog stands out as a legend, an Ogin whose fighting abilities as an Astra Militarum soldier are as astonishing as his mental development. His loyalty and skills as a bodyguard have made him a highly sought-after asset across the galaxy.

The Tale of Uro

Another noteworthy abhuman is Uro, who served among the ranks of the 233rd Katakana Jungle Fighters, having been tithed at a very young age. He displayed a fierce loyalty to his comrades, always coming to their aid in times of need. However, the recent loss of his friend Grion at the hands of Orc boys has sparked an uncharacteristic aggression in Uro, who now seeks revenge against the Orcs.

The moral complexity of the Warhammer 40,000 universe is reflected in the perception of abhumans like Ain and Uro. The Imperial propaganda paints any enemy of humanity as bloodthirsty and oppressive, yet the Astra Militarum readily employs these aggressive brutes. They are seen as rightful servants of the great cause as long as they are causing carnage for the Imperium. This raises the question of consent and the blurred lines between good and evil in the galaxy.

Stay tuned for the next part of the series, where we delve deeper into the world of the abhumans and the intricacies of the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
