Shortly About Daemon Engines – Part 10

In the haunting depths of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, there exists a place of torment and decay, a place known only as the Forge of Souls. The acrid aroma of burning metal and relentless industry permeates the air, accompanied by the piercing screeches of machinery and the tormented wails of countless condemned souls. This grim and foreboding place is the home of the ever-mutating demon artisans of Cyclopenia, who tirelessly hammer away in the roaring black flames of their infernal laboratories.

In this unholy cathedral of chaos, semi-sentient creatures and colossal mechs work in unison, fueled by the sacrifice of countless damned souls. From this dark abyss emerges an array of unholy weapons and war machines of chaos, created through a perverse fusion of demonic energies and bewitched metals. The results of this unholy union are great serrated blades, weeping swords, spiked metal whips, and other formidable items and talismans destined to be wielded in the eternal wars of the demons.

These, however, are mere toys compared to the grandest creations of the Demonic Smiths – the formidable Soul Grinders. According to myth, these horrifying constructs were birthed right in this purgatory. A blend of the most powerful demonic entities and mighty war machines, these terror-inducing creations are crafted from the shattered remains of demon engines and possessed machinery.

An endless battle rages around the Soul Forge, as the higher demonic echelons vie for the right to merge with one of these mechanical constructs, to become a Soul Grinder. Unlike a regular possessed body, these steel and ceramite bodies can host a demon in the world of mortals for decades, or even centuries. Over time, the form of each Soul Grinder morphs, their metallic bodies gradually taking on the form of the demon within. This magnificent armored body, however, comes at a steep price.

The craftsmen of the Forge demand a price for each new Soul Grinder, a price paid in slain mortals and innumerable souls. There is one constant, however. Before it is released, a demon must reveal its true name to the Forge and give its Masters three Oaths of the Iron Pact. These oaths bind the demon to the Forge, compelling it to fuel the flames with the souls it collects, return the remnants of all war machines it destroys, and most importantly, defend the Forge from any who would dare attack it.

Once the dark pact is sealed, the demon’s essence is fused into a warp metal body and reborn as a Soul Grinder. This demonic war machine is then unleashed upon the galaxy, cutting a bloody path as it collects souls to pay its debt to the Forge. However, this debt is not easily settled, as the price unpredictably grows, sometimes becoming forever unattainable. A vicious cycle begins, dooming the demon to the same eternal curse as the souls of those it has slain in battle.

Soul Grinders always lead the demonic hosts, using their impressive firepower to decimate enemy positions and cover the advance of the Dark Gods’ infantry. Their demonic nature allows them to materialize out of thin air, while their ceramite bodies, animated and protected by the supernatural energies of the empyrean, render them invulnerable to most weapons.

Possessing large caliber and rapid-firing weapons, these formidable machines unleash torrential fire upon their enemies. Yet, their most powerful weapon is their smoldering maw, capable of blasting enemies with terrifying charges of warp energy, sometimes in the form of warp fire, other times as searing energy beams. The Soul Grinders, the terrifying creations of the Demonic Smiths, are indeed a force to be reckoned with in the eternal wars of the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
