The Unyielding Salamanders: Protectors of Humanity
In the aftermath of the Season of Fire, only two Companies remained to safeguard the major population centers. Meanwhile, the Chapter’s Techmarines worked tirelessly to rebuild the devastated infrastructure. Tu’Shan, the esteemed leader of the Salamanders, left a squad of Firedrakes with the Blood Angels as an honor guard for the fallen Captain Tycho.
A New Era of War
As the war raged into the Noctis Aeterna, many Salamanders reinforcements were cut off from Armageddon. When Warp Travel was reestablished, the Salamanders and elements from eight other Chapters discovered that nearly half of Armageddon had been transformed into a Daemon World. The Salamanders led the charge in halting a Daemonic ritual that would have summoned Angron to Armageddon.
Battles and Campaigns
Throughout the ages, the Salamanders have participated in numerous battles and campaigns, including:
- The Indomitus Crusade
- The Battle of Lagros against Khaz’khul
- The Cleansing of Ybrannis against the Death Guard
- The Battle of Warsylask
- Waaagh! Wazkrumpa
- Battle on Torquar
- Battling the Thousand Sons on Monai Landing
- The Talledus War
- The Third War for Damnos
Gene-Seed and Unique Traits
The Salamanders’ gene-seed is shrouded in mystery, created by the Emperor for a specific purpose. This “Trefoil” was kept apart from other Legions during the Unification Wars and Great Crusade. The Salamanders’ gene-seed appears to be stable and uncorrupted, but it also carries a unique trait – a slower reflex reaction compared to other Chapters.
Fire-Sight and Other Abilities
The Salamanders possess a genetic trait known as Fire-Sight, allowing them to focus on particular heat signatures. This ability is augmented by a material that generates minute pulses of heat, which is layered into their armor and woven into their robes and standards. Additionally, the Salamanders have a greater tolerance for extreme temperature and radiation, as well as enhanced cellular repair.
Culture and Appearance
The Salamanders’ dark or jet-black skin and bright, burning eyes are a result of their genetics and the high levels of radiation on Nocturne. This intimidating appearance has been known to quell rebellions without firing a shot. The Salamanders’ culture is built around their unyielding dedication to protecting humanity, and their unwavering commitment to their duty.
