Sisters Of Silence Warhammer 40K – Part 2 (Part 2 of 3)

The Silent Guardians of the Imperium

In a grim, dark future, where the light of civilization flickers, a secretive organization of women has dedicated itself to protecting humanity from the threats that lurk in the shadows. The Sisters of Silence, a mysterious and powerful force, has been the Imperium’s unseen guardian for millennia.

A Legacy of Loyalty and Sacrifice

Founded during the Great Crusade, the Sisters of Silence were created to hunt down and eliminate rogue psykers, individuals who wielded powerful and uncontrolled psychic abilities. These silent warriors swore an oath of silence, known as the Oath of Tranquility, to prevent them from speaking the terrible knowledge they learned while hunting their prey.

The Horus Heresy and the Devolution of the Sisterhood

During the Horus Heresy, a civil war that ravaged the Imperium, the Sisters of Silence played a crucial role in defending the Emperor and the Imperium. However, in the aftermath of the Heresy, the Sisterhood was cast out of the Adeptus Terra, the ruling council of the Imperium, due to the uneasy nature of their presence as Blanks, individuals who possess no psychic energy.

The Long Vigil

For millennia, the Sisters of Silence operated in the shadows, their numbers dwindling to a mere handful. By the 41st millennium, only a single force of fifty Sisters remained, dwelling on the world of Nadiries. Despite being fiercely loyal to the Emperor and the Imperium, this last bastion of the Sisterhood expressed disdain for the modern Imperium, stating that they would rather see it burn than be of aid.

The Rebirth of the Sisterhood

With the rebirth of Roboute Guilliman, the Lord Commander of the Imperium, the Sisters of Silence were rediscovered and reconstituted. Guilliman issued the Dispensatus Anathema, declaring that the remaining strongholds of the Sisters of Silence be gathered and expanded. The Sisterhood was reborn, and new Vigils were formed to take part in the Indomitus Crusade.

The Modern Sisterhood

Today, the Sisters of Silence are a powerful and secretive organization, operating in every segmentum of the Imperium. Their null abilities make them invaluable in penetrating the fierce Warp Storms that ravage the Imperium. The Sisterhood is divided into Vigils, each containing approximately 1,000 sisters, and is overseen by three general officers: the Sister Commander, the Mistress of the Black Fleet, and the Nemesis Praxia.

Ranks and Organization

The Sisterhood is organized into four distinct groups: the Chamber of Vigilance, the Chamber of Oblivion, the Chamber of Judgement, and the Chamber Astra. Each Vigil varies in identity, traditions, and history, but all are divided into Cadres, company-level bodies that undertake specific duties.

Sign Language and Communication

The Sisters of Silence communicate through a unique sign language, known as ThoughtMark, which conveys complex ideas and subtlety. They also use BattleMark, a symbolic sign-language used in combat, and Orsköde, a machine-readable version of ThoughtMark. On occasions, senior Sisters may use a Proloquor, an acolyte who has yet to take the vow of tranquility, to communicate with those outside their Order.

Notable Battles

The Sisters of Silence have fought in numerous battles throughout their history, including the Mariposa Campaign, the Battle of Iota Horologi, the Horus Heresy, and the War of the Beast. They continue to play a crucial role in defending the Imperium against the threats that lurk in the shadows.
