The Tau Empire’s Stellar Expansion
The Tau Empire has made significant strides in developing its space-faring capabilities, with the Tau Fleet playing a crucial role in the empire’s defense and expansion plans. Operated by the Air Caste, the Tau Fleet is responsible for protecting the empire’s interests and facilitating its growth into the galaxy.
Early Developments
Despite being a relatively new player in the galaxy, the Tau Empire has made rapid progress in developing its space-faring capabilities. The discovery of an alien vessel on one of T’au Seven’s moons provided a significant breakthrough, allowing the Tau to replicate the warp drive technology. However, initial test flights were met with disaster, as the Tau lacked the psychically attuned minds necessary to guide the transition into the Warp.
Innovative Solutions
Undeterred, the Tau Earth Caste scientists developed an innovative solution, using a gravitic wing to extend the duration of the “dive” into the Warp. This allowed the Tau to achieve staggering speeds and cover immense distances, albeit at a slower pace than typical Imperial Warp speeds.
Starship Development
The first major class of starships built by the Tau were the ponderous Gal’leath class vessels, which laid the foundations for the empire’s expansion. The introduction of more compact gravitic drives led to the development of smaller, more agile ships, such as the Il’fannor class and the Kass’l gunships.
The Kor’or’vesh Initiative
Following unfavorable naval engagements with the Imperial Navy, the Tau High Command launched the Kor’or’vesh initiative, a bold fleet expansion and development program. This program saw the introduction of new ship designs, built with the latest Tau technology, and informed by the costly losses sustained in previous battles.
New Generation Tau Ships
The result of the Kor’or’vesh initiative was the development of several new classes of Tau ships, including the Il’Porrui Class Cruiser, the Kir’shasvre escort, and the mighty Or’es El’leath Class Battleship and its Kir’la Carrier Escorts. These new generation ships were designed to address the shortcomings of the previous fleet and provide the Tau with a more formidable presence in the galaxy.
