T Au Warhammer 40K – Part 4 (Part 4 of 4)

The Tau Empire: A Technological Powerhouse

In the vast expanse of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, the Tau Empire stands out as a beacon of technological advancement. Their space-faring fleet, known as the Kor’vattra, has been a priority for the Ethereals since the early days of the First Sphere of Expansion. This emphasis on technological progress has allowed the Tau to rapidly expand their reach across the galaxy.

A Ranged-Combat Oriented Army

The Tau military is designed around ranged combat, with a focus on engaging enemies at maximum distance. This approach allows them to take out enemy strongpoints while keeping their own troops safe from harm. The “Mecha-Tau” strategy, which utilizes the speed and mobility of Tau vehicles and battlesuits, is a hallmark of their military tactics.

Specialized Units

The Tau army is highly specialized, with each unit designed to perform a specific task. Fire Warrior teams form the backbone of the army, while Pathfinders provide scouting and fire support. Broadside Battlesuits and Crisis Battlesuits offer heavy firepower and specialized capabilities. Stealthsuit teams operate independently, unleashing devastating attacks from hidden positions.

Advanced Technology

Tau technology is centered around particle-based propulsion systems, which are used in their pulse rifles and carbines. They also employ advanced ion cannons, railguns, and guided missiles. The T’au have even developed artificial intelligence-controlled drones, which can be used to support troops or operate independently.

Notable Characters

The Tau Empire is home to a number of notable characters, including Aun’Va, the High Ethereal; Aun’shi, the Hero of Fio’vash; and Shas’O T’au Shaserra, the Supreme Commander of the Tau military. Other notable figures include Puretide, a legendary commander; Shas’O Vior’la Shovah Kais Mont’yr, leader of the Farsight Enclaves; and El’Myamoto, a famed Pathfinder.

Alien Allies

The Tau Empire has formed alliances with various alien species, which are employed as auxiliaries in their military. These allies bring unique skills and abilities to the battlefield, making the Tau an even more formidable force.

The Evolution of the Tau

The development of the Tau began with Gav Thorpe’s concept of a counterpart to the Lizardmen from Warhammer Fantasy. The original idea, dubbed the “Shishell,” was eventually renamed the Tau and evolved into the technologically advanced empire we know today. The Tau’s distinctive Japanese/mecha aesthetic was introduced by Jes Goodwin, and their idealistic and altruistic nature was designed to contrast with the other factions of the Warhammer 40,000 setting.
