In the aftermath of the Horus Heresy, the Ultramarines laid siege to the Iron Warriors’ formidable stronghold, the Eternal Fortress. This imposing structure, spanning over 20 square miles, was a labyrinth of bunkers, towers, and trenches, designed to withstand even the most relentless assaults. At the heart of the fortress lay a massive bunker, intended to serve as a decoy and lure enemy forces into a trap.

A Futile Siege

Despite the warnings of Roboute Guilliman, the Imperial Fists, led by Rogal Dorn, launched a ferocious assault on the Eternal Fortress. The battle raged on for three weeks, with the Imperial Fists suffering heavy losses. As the siege dragged on, the Ultramarines arrived on the scene, bringing much-needed reinforcements to the beleaguered Imperial Fists. However, the intervention of the Ultramarines came too late to prevent the Iron Warriors from claiming victory.

A Hero’s Fall

Roboute Guilliman’s reign as the leader of the Imperium would eventually come to an end during the Battle of Thessala. In a fateful duel, Guilliman faced off against his traitorous brother, Fulgrim, and suffered a mortal wound. The Ultramarines, determined to preserve their beloved leader, placed him in stasis, where he would remain for the next 10,000 years.

• 544.M32: The War of the Beast saw the Ultramarines defend their homeworld against an Ork invasion.
• 546.M32: Chapter Master Agnathio united the Astartes and brought order to the Imperium following the Beheading.
• 745.M41: The Ultramarines stopped Hive Fleet Behemoth during the Battle for Macragge.
• 855.M41: Captain Cato Sicarius led the 2nd Company to victory against the Orks on Black Reach.
• 913.M41: The Six Hour War saw the Ultramarines banish the Tau from the world of K’ail.
