War Of Beasts Warhammer 40K – Part 7 (Part 7 of 17)

Vigilus in Ruins: The Chaos Invasion

The once-thriving world of Vigilus was plunged into darkness as the Chaos fleet arrived in orbit, casting a shadow of despair over its sprawling metropolises. The masses, driven mad by desperation and terror, turned to the banners of Chaos or the insidious Broodmind, while others sought solace in the Imperial Cult.

Riots and Looting Erupt

As Chaos forces descended upon the hivesprawls, they encountered not only the entrenched defenders but also hordes of fanatical Zealots, whose fervor proved both a blessing and a curse for the Imperials. Meanwhile, Abaddon’s forces were unexpectedly hindered by the sheer number of xenos on the planet, forcing them to revise their strategies.

The Night Lords’ Assault

Haarken deployed the Night Lords and the Scourged to capture the Genestealer stronghold of Dirkden. The assault was marked by brutal slaughter, but the Heretic Astartes soon found themselves fighting for their lives against Genestealer ambushes. Despite mowing down countless cultists, the Night Lords were ultimately broken by a final, crushing assault led by Aberrants and Metamorphs.

Tunnel Fighting and Betrayal

Beneath Dirkden, the Genestealers attempted to tunnel into Oteck, only to be confronted by the Adepta Sororitas. The ensuing tunnel-fighting campaign revealed a vast underground network stretching towards Hyperia. Canoness Temperance Blaise abandoned the venture, choosing instead to focus on mapping Ork Speedwaaagh! races to prepare Imperial forces for future assaults.

Retaking the Hoist

Imperial forces prepared to retake the Omnissian Hoist, a vital water-delivery relay station. The structure was held by Genestealer forces, who had earlier attempted to capture the orbital mining station Sacrus Tora Hawking. The Imperial counterattack, led by Mechanicus and Iron Hands, battled through Ork and Genestealer forces, with orbital bombardment blasting a path through the enemy lines.

Calgar’s Fires

As the Word Bearers assaulted Hyperia Hivesprawl, Calgar was convinced to start massive fires at the throat of each major hive-sprawl. Sisters of Battle fire teams set conflagrations that became known as Calgar’s Fires, burning the spires of Vigilus one by one. The Vengeful Spirit, arriving above Vigilus, decimated any Imperial navy vessel that dared oppose it, forcing the Admirals to abandon contesting its presence.

War of Nightmares: Phase Two

As the war raged on, Vigilus teetered on the brink of collapse. The Imperium’s grip on the world was tenuous at best, with Chaos forces pushing forward on all fronts. The fate of Vigilus hung in the balance, as the conflict entered its next phase of unrelenting terror and bloodshed.
