War Of The Beast Warhammer 40K – Part 6 (Part 6 of 9)

The Rebirth of the Deathwatch

In the aftermath of the brutal fighting on Ullanor, Lord Commander Koorland realized that the Ork threat was far from vanquished. The Beast, or a new Warboss, had taken control of the Waaagh!, and the Imperium needed a new strategy to counter the enemy. Koorland proposed the formation of elite Kill-Teams, drawn from multiple Space Marine Chapters, to target the Ork leadership and key strategic objectives.

Opposition from the High Lords

However, not all members of the Senatorum shared Koorland’s vision. Tobris Ekharth and Mesring led the opposition, citing concerns that the creation of such teams would undermine the foundations of the Post-Heresy Imperium and contradict the rulings of Roboute Guilliman. Despite Drakan Vangorich’s support, the first vote on the proposal ended in defeat, with only Vangorich voting in favor and Kubik and Veritus abstaining.

The Ork Attack Moon Reactivates

The situation took a dramatic turn when the Ork Attack Moon, thought to be derelict, reactivated and began pouring in massive reinforcements. The Beast himself announced his intention to bring slaughter to humanity, and the Imperium was faced with a new and terrifying threat. In the face of this danger, Koorland was able to convince most of the High Lords to reconsider their opposition, and the proposal was approved in a second vote.

The Birth of the Deathwatch

With the approval of the Senatorum, Koorland quickly deployed his new force, comprising three small squads of black-armored Space Marines drawn from multiple Chapters. Dubbed the Deathwatch in memory of the fallen brothers of Ullanor, they were tasked with boarding the Attack Moon and planting Mechanicum beacons to facilitate its destruction. Although the mission was partially successful, the Mechanicum was unable to master the potent Ork technologies, and the moon shattered, blanketing Terra in debris and causing widespread destruction.

The Hunt for the Sisters of Silence

Undeterred by the setback, Koorland planned his next move against The Beast. Recognizing the need for a counter to the potent Ork psychics, the Deathwatch followed a lead by Veritus to find the last remaining bastion of the Sisters of Silence. Koorland himself led the expedition to the far reaches of Segmentum Pacificus, dealing with Ork forces along the way and eventually finding the Sisters’ fortress under siege on Nadiries. After lifting the siege and convincing the reluctant Sisters to join him, Koorland secured a crucial ally in the fight against The Beast.

The Stage is Set

With the Deathwatch and the Sisters of Silence on board, Koorland is poised to launch a new attack on The Beast. The fate of humanity hangs in the balance, and the outcome of the conflict is far from certain. Will the combined might of the Deathwatch and the Sisters of Silence be enough to bring down the Ork warlord, or will The Beast prove too powerful to defeat? Only time will tell.
