World Eaters Warhammer 40K – Part 5 (Part 5 of 11)

The Horus Heresy: Angron’s Betrayal

As the fateful hour of the Horus Heresy approached, Angron, the Primarch of the World Eaters, found himself increasingly disillusioned with the Emperor’s rule. Horus, the cunning and manipulative leader of the Sons of Horus, seized upon Angron’s discontent and fueled the flames of his anger.

The War with the Auretian Technocracy

Angron’s 203rd Expeditionary Fleet joined forces with Horus’ 63rd Expeditionary Fleet in a war against the Auretian Technocracy. The conflict was sparked under false pretenses, allowing Horus to secure valuable STC machines that would win him the loyalty of the Mechanicum. The World Eaters and Sons of Horus worked together to obliterate the Auretian civilization.

The Battle of Isstvan III

When news of the rebellion on Isstvan III reached Angron, he was part of Horus’ war council that decided to use the opportunity to rid their legions of those who might remain loyal to the Emperor. A sizeable contingent of World Eaters was deployed to crush the rebellion, but they were betrayed by their fellow traitors in orbit. Angron, determined to cut down his own betrayed troops, led a force of 50 companies of World Eaters in a brutal assault.

A Traitor’s Loyalty

In a shocking display of loyalty, Angron revealed that he did not stand with Horus, but against the Emperor. He saw himself as free from the Emperor’s rule and was willing to fight against him.

The Battle of Isstvan V

Angron and the World Eaters played a pivotal role in the Battle of Isstvan V, also known as the Drop Site Massacre. They split the Raven Guard’s line of communication from the Iron Hands and caused significant casualties among the Raven Guard. The World Eaters focused their ire on the Raven Guard, even after the battle had been won, and engaged in a bizarre and barbaric practice of decapitating and flensing the heads of the fallen.

Aftermath

The World Eaters’ actions on Isstvan V had a profound impact on the Raven Guard, causing them significant psychological distress. Angron remained on the planet, leading the hunt for the Raven Guard survivors, but ultimately, they were rescued by a relief force of their own legion.
