Dreadnought Legacy – Part 4

Welcome back, fellow lore enthusiasts, to another dive into the rich, complex universe of Warhammer 40,000. In this installment of our multi-part series, we’re going to delve into the world of Dreadnaughts – those towering, armored behemoths that are both feared and revered on the battlefield.

Our focus in this exploration is the Death Company Dreadnaught, a distinctive assault variant of the standard model. This particular beast is a sight to behold, outfitted with menacing fists or talons, always ready to deal a devastating blow.

Adding to the uniqueness of this model is the Dreadnaught Librarian, another assault variant of the Dreadnaught Furioso. But it’s not just any battle brother encased within; it’s a Librarian. This variation is armed with blood fists integrated with a stormbolter and a nemesis force halberd, truly a force to be reckoned with. The sarcophagus cradling the Librarian is equipped with psychic hoods to focus psycho powers, making it a formidable psychic powerhouse.

Of course, Dreadnaughts are not a one-size-fits-all affair. Different orders have forged their versions, varying only in armaments and internal systems. One such variant is the Wolfen Dreadnaught, a ferocious machine born out of the curse of the Wolfen. When the soul of the honored brother edges closer to its feral essence, the standard weaponry is replaced with that of close combat. This Dreadnaught is a bloodthirsty beast, desiring only to rend and tear.

An intriguing feature of the Wolfen Dreadnaught is the Fenrisian Great Axe. This massive power axe, the height of a Space Marine, is forged only in the heart of the Great Wolf’s fortresses and can only be wielded by a Dreadnaught. It also bears in its other hand a vast Storm Shield known as the Blizzard Shield. This shield’s force field and enhanced resilience bestow upon the Dreadnaught the fortitude to persevere through the direst of circumstances.

Now let’s switch gears and take a look at the Dreadnaughts of the Grey Knights. Outwardly resembling the standard Castrum pattern, these machines harbor technological mysteries specifically wrought for this esteemed order. One unique pattern is the Doom Glaive, armed with the Nemesis Doom Glaive and a massive sa Canon capable of decimating legions of demons with a singular volley. This variant was forged amidst the Gonher Rebellion when the seventh chapter of the Grey Knights faced an entire Army of blood letters.

The Grey Knights’ veneration of their Dreadnaughts diverges from other orders. They’re seen as living connections to the order’s origins, more ancient artifacts than instruments of war. They are living embodiments of the Imperium’s grand victories and echoes of ancient times. It’s often only the grand masters and captains who are encased within these venerable machines of war, further elevating the reverence bestowed upon them.

Despite their vast experience and power, the Grey Knights are hesitant to disturb their Dreadnaughts’ slumber. They are only awakened when it becomes evident that a battle cannot be won by mortal hands alone. After a grueling fight, these ancients return to Titan to rest and await the next great battle.

So, there we have it – a deep dive into the world of Dreadnaughts, from the Death Company and Wolfen variants to the ancient and revered machines of the Grey Knights. Join us again as we continue to explore the intricate and fascinating lore of Warhammer 40,000.
