The Celestinian Crusade: A Tale of Sacrifice, Survival, and Salvation
In the vast, shadowy reaches of the Warhammer 40,000 cosmos, epic sagas of interstellar conflict unfold. These tales are woven with threads of heroism, sacrifice, and the brutal struggle to survive against all odds. Today, I bring you another chapter from the annals of the 41st Millennium, the epic of the Celestinian Crusade.
As the Crusade commenced, the Imperial Fleet, aboard their gargantuan void ships including the magnificent Iron Revenant, faced a daunting task – saving three million souls from the cataclysmic instability of the Cadian Gate. The warp storms raging in the region made accessing the webway a perilous impossibility. With a relentless Chaos Warfleet hot on their heels, they were forced to navigate through the entire Cadian system at sublight speeds, a treacherous escape indeed.
The Iron Revenant, the Imperial Fleet’s most formidable capital ship, magnificently commanded by Coal, made the ultimate sacrifice. In a heroic last stand, it clashed with Abon’s flagship, the Vengeful Spirit, to buy time for the rest of the Celestinian Crusade to reach the icy sanctuary of Kus, a moon of the world Kasa Hohn. This heroic sacrifice was not in vain.
Unexpected allies emerged from the icy shadows of Kus. The Inari, emerging from a hidden webway portal, saved the surviving Celestinian from the brutal Arctic conditions and the pursuing forces of Chaos. Even with the loss of the Iron Revenant, Coal managed to salvage its most precious cargo – the Armor of Fate. This was no ordinary armor – it was the key to the resurrection of Primarch Robut Gilean.
Guided by the Eldari, the Celestinian journeyed through the webway to the realm of Ultramar in the Eastern fringes of the galaxy. Yet, this region was not safe either, as it was under fierce assault by the forces of the Despoiler. Despite initial suspicion, the Ultramarines delivered the Celestinian to Mcag within the Fortress of Hera.
There, Coal finally revealed the nature of the artifacts from his auto-reliquary. They were intended to save Primarch Robut Gilean from the mortal wound that had trapped him in stasis for a mind-boggling 10,000 years! Coal, with the help of Irin, managed to resurrect the Primarch amidst a powerful assault by the forces of chaos on the local Primark Shrine.
Once free, Gilean wasted no time. He expelled the invaders from Ultramar and decided to journey to Terror, a journey fraught with warp anomalies and threats posed by the warp rift known as the Maelstrom. Coal, with his unparalleled technological expertise and combat abilities, assisted the Imperial forces of the Crusade, overcoming all obstacles.
After escaping from confinement in the Blackstone Fortress held by the Red Corsair, the survivors reached the Sol system via the webway. Rescued by the fallen angel Cipher and the remnants of the Harlequins, they arrived at Luna. There, they helped defeat the Thousand Sons traitor legion and the demonic Primarch Magnus the Red.
Coal was one of the few Imperials to survive both the Celestinian and the Terran Crusades. His long work, a secret pact on the Red Planet, was nearing completion. His project was nothing less than an attempt to improve upon the creation of the Emperor himself. Coal had been working tirelessly for 10 standard millennia to create a new legion of superhuman warriors – the Primaris Space Marines.
These warriors were larger, stronger, and faster than the regular astartes. Forged during the so-called Ultima Founding in the year 99 of the 41st Millennium, they were the new heroes for the darkest age in the history of the Imperium of Man. Armed with new equipment forged on Mars, such as Mark 10 power armor, bolt rifles, plasma incinerators, Redemptor Dreadnots, the Overlord gunship, and Repulsor grav tanks, these warriors were ready to join the indomitable crusade called by Gilean.
The saga of the Celestinian Crusade is a testament to the spirit of the Imperium, its ability to survive and fight back against the forces of Chaos. It’s a reminder that even in the face of overwhelming darkness, there is always a glimmer of hope. And sometimes, that hope comes in the form of an Iron Revenant.
