Title: “The Hidden Depths of the 20th Legion: A Look at Alarius and Omegon”
In the vast universe of Warhammer 40,000, the mystery surrounding the twin leaders of the 20th Legion, Alarius and Omegon, continues to intrigue enthusiasts. As part of our multi-part series delving into this intricate lore, we’ll explore their origin, relationships, and unique leadership style.
The twins, Alarius and Omegon, speculated that they were inadvertently created by the Emperor during their warp travel. The energy of the empyreum could have duplicated them, splitting their parts and individual soul. This led them to conclude that the Emperor was unaware of their dual existence. It was a personal choice they made, not to reveal their true nature to their father, the Emperor, yet they felt it necessary to inform the Imperium that the 20th Legion had not just one, but two leaders.
Fearful of the Emperor’s insight, the twins decided to reveal themselves to another primarch, Horus. Alarius, who had studied Horus more extensively, managed to infiltrate his flagship. Upon meeting Horus, there was no clash of titans, but a desire for understanding. Horus immediately recognized him as a brother, yet was unaware that the Alarius standing before him was actually Omegon.
In the following months, the legions fought together, and the primarchs grew closer. The brothers perceived the twins as a single person – noble and smart. However, Alarius felt he was not universally liked. He believed he was viewed negatively by Leman Russ and Rogal Dorn, the latter of whom he found pretentious, arrogant, and dangerously straightforward.
Alarius’ calculated moves and covert disagreements with his brothers cast serious doubts on the events following the fall of Horus. Throughout the crusade, many primarchs and legionaries were puzzled by how effortlessly the Lord of the 20th Legion allowed his sons to use his name. To outsiders, this seemed inconceivable in terms of subordination and command hierarchy. Yet, Alarius saw no need for fierce protection of his name and appearance. He believed that any legionary taking his name embodied the main idea. It was the action alone that mattered, not the individual.
Under the twins’ leadership, the Alpha Legion became renowned for its supreme discipline, envied even by Roboute Guilliman. Alarius’ methods demanded incredible cohesion of all units, perfect organization, and unity. Every Space Marine knew his function and prioritized its achievement above all else. This reputation for being impatient, diligent, and ruthless, however, hid the true schemes of Alarius. Even his closest allies were kept in the dark about the true objectives of the 20th Legion during the period of the Great Crusade.
The mysterious Alarius and his refusal of direct communication managed to infuriate even Sanguinius, leading to further confrontation with other primarchs. How much Omegon, raised under completely different conditions, agreed with his brother’s methods is unclear. However, it’s plausible to assume that a collective soul bound them, at least in ideas, for a time.
Stay tuned for more on the Alpha Legion and the enigmatic twins who led them, as we continue to unravel the captivating lore of Warhammer 40,000 in our upcoming posts.
