In the annals of Warhammer 40,000 lore, the saga of Rogal Dorn and the Imperial Fists stand as a testament to loyalty, resilience and an undying commitment to duty. In the grand tapestry of epic battles, heroic sacrifices and unfathomable losses, the sons of Dorn, against insurmountable odds, waged an unyielding resistance against the Alpha Legion.
The turning tide came in the form of Rogal Dorn himself, aboard the magnificent flagship, Faank, of the 7th Legion. With him came a vast fleet, bolstered by reinforcements from the Armada Imperialis. The swift arrival, enabled by strategically positioned gravitational zones, allowed the rapid movement of loyalist forces across the system.
Dorn, with singular focus on his traitorous brother Alarus, teleported directly into the heart of the Alpha Legion stronghold, the Citadel’s Hall. What ensued was a clash of titanic proportions, pitting the Templars on Dorn’s side against the elite Lernaean Terminators of Alarus. Amidst the chaos, Alarus attempted a lethal strike with his pale spear, only to have Dorn parry the attack with his sword, wrench the weapon from Alarus, and sever his brother’s hands with his chainsword, Storm’s Teeth. The death blow came as Dorn cleaved Alarus in two, delivering a finishing strike to his head.
Although for a long time, Alarus’s death on Hydra was taken as fact, recent reports have cast doubt on this. Regardless, with Dorn victorious, the Alpha Legion in the Pluto region lost their power and withdrew. Dorn then embarked on the final phase of fortifying the Imperial Palace.
Despite his heartache at ordering the beautiful palace to be clad in steel shields and millions of artillery guns positioned on newly constructed bastions, Dorn prioritized duty over aesthetics. Immersed in the strategy of Terra’s defense, he became a figure of relentless dedication, even forsaking sleep for the cause.
Dorn believed the heart of the Imperium was shielded by two walls – his own Legion and the master of mankind fighting behind The Golden Throne. And he maintained an unwavering hope for victory, recognizing the war as a dark moment that would pass if humanity’s defenders remained faithful to their duty.
As part of the defenses, Dorn’s flagship, Fallons, hung over Terra like a second moon. This mighty ship not only fulfilled its role as protector but also survived the Heresy without significant damage. When the Mechanicum schism threatened to deprive loyalist forces of vital weaponry, Dorn sent a detachment of Imperial Fists to Mars. Despite heavy losses, they successfully delivered the weaponry to the planet, playing a significant role in the palace’s defense.
The final battle saw Rogal Dorn, the Emperor, and Primarch Sanguinius teleport aboard the treacherous flagship of Horus. But when a warp-distorted teleportation separated Dorn from his father and brother, he and his squad of chosen veterans had to fight their way from the most distant edge of the ship. Tragically, this led to Dorn arriving late to the battle with Lupercal and unable to contribute to the victory over evil.
The sight that greeted Dorn was heart-wrenching – the shattered Emperor and the slain Sanguinius on the ship’s bridge. Despite his grief, Dorn’s resilience shone through. He delivered his fallen brother and the wounded Emperor to Terra, heard his last command, and began the restoration of the Imperium. Once all his duties were fulfilled, Dorn finally allowed himself to feel the pain that gripped his heart, blaming himself for the tragedy. This led him to the idea of setting out with the 7th Legion on a new mission, the details of which will be part of our next thrilling installment. Stay tuned!
