Journey through Eldar History – Part 4

Title: Eldar’s Lost Epoch: A Tale of Glory, Depravity, and the Fall

The Eldar, an enigmatic race from the expansive universe of Warhammer 40,000, have a history so dense and convoluted that one might liken it to the labyrinthine corridors of their magnificent, ancient cities. A veil of obscurity shrouds their early evolution, their initial ventures into the cosmos, and their first conquests. This historical blackout, as it’s referred to, is often attributed to the cataclysmic period known as “The Fall.”

In the fabled time before the Fall, the Eldar civilization was an empire that spanned galaxies, a pinnacle of power and enlightenment. Their cities were utopian landscapes, brimming with beauty, personal pleasure, and cultural achievements. However, like a tale told over countless millennia, the memory of these halcyon days has been reduced to mere fragments, mythical legends that barely hint at their grandeur.

The Eldar, in their zenith, were a proud, arrogant race, certain of their unchallenged superiority. Their advanced technologies, refined culture, and limitless wealth stoked the fires of their vanity. For them, this was an eternal era of glory, and none foresaw the doom that lurked in the shadows of their paradise.

In this golden age, the Eldar knew no fear of death. For them, it was merely the beginning of a new journey, a cycle of rebirth in the warp – a realm profoundly different from the chaotic, malevolent force we know today. Their souls, upon departing their mortal vessels, would dissolve peacefully within the warp to be reborn anew.

The Eldar’s unchallenged dominion over the galaxy, coupled with the warp’s indifference, led to a dangerous sense of entitlement. They came to believe that the universe existed solely for their pleasure, for their sake. Advanced technologies had long since relieved them of manual labor, and their society provided for every need without individual effort. This freedom allowed them to dedicate their lives to the pursuit of every imaginable pleasure, which eventually led to their downfall.

As the Eldar indulged their whims and desires, their society started to fracture. Exotic cults, dedicated to esoteric knowledge or sensual indulgence, started to emerge on all Eldar worlds. These cults sowed discord, gaining strength and influence that threatened the very fabric of Eldar society.

A few Eldar, plagued by visions of a horrific future, fled to the edges of their empire, establishing colonies of the exiled. For many, however, the truth was revealed too late. Their civilization spiraled into anarchy and madness. Those who managed to break free from their descent into depravity escaped aboard massive craft worlds into the vastness of space.

Yet, a significant portion of the Eldar were already ensnared in a whirlwind of monstrous desires that escalated into an orgy of depravity. Their once-beautiful cities became hunting grounds for sadists and murderers, their streets running red with rivers of blood. The warp absorbed this surge of depravity, feeding off the Eldar’s horrific thoughts and feelings, and began to take form.

Thus, the once-glorious Eldar fell from their pinnacle of power into an abyss of anarchy and insanity. Their tale serves as a chilling reminder of the dangerous allure of unchecked power and the fatal consequences of unbridled indulgence. The Eldar’s history is a testament to the cyclical nature of civilizations – rise, glory, decay, and fall.
