Abaddon’s Triumph: The Finale of the 13th Black Crusade – Part 4

Title: Warhammer 40,000: The Siege of Bal – The Blood Angels’ Stand

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war. A truth that rang louder than ever as the Blood Angels, led by their indomitable leader Dante, fought tooth and nail to defend the beleaguered Bal. The tides of this war, however, were as fickle as the Warp itself.

With the Blood Angels’ first and second companies hot on the heels of Asaroth and the fifth company, they made their entrance into the Damore system just in time to avert a catastrophic surprise. But their reprieve was short-lived as a deadly psychic attack swept through the Blood Angels’ ranks, triggering the dreaded Black Rage across the fifth company. The news was a blow to the heart – to have the Black Rage, a curse feared by all Blood Angels, forced upon them by enemy sorcery was a violation of the highest order.

Chaos ensued, but like a beacon in the dark, First Captain Carlin’s forces swiftly responded. Chaplains and the Sanguinary Guard from the first and second companies were sent to the aid of the beleaguered fifth, restoring order amidst the chaos. With the situation stabilized, the Blood Angels launched their counter-attack.

The Crimson Slaughter, entrenched in the Adeptus Mechanicus hubs on Athol, met the full force of the Blood Angels’ wrath. Led by the indomitable Death Company, the Angels dropped in two waves at Hub Beta Secundus, landing between the Crimson Slaughter’s advance and their prize. The chaos forces were forced to retreat as the Blood Angels pushed them back, their momentum lost amidst the wreckage of their own defenses.

Despite their affliction, the Death Company fought with unparalleled courage and strength. Even in the face of demonic engines and Warp craft, they prevailed, pressing the attack with the intent of purging every last traitor from Amthor.

Just when victory seemed within grasp, the enemy struck back with renewed fury. The true mastermind of the traitor’s attack, the Chaos Sorcerer Lord of the Black Legion, had been biding his time. As he continued his dark ritual, a World Eater’s Murder Fleet led by the infamous Berserker Khah the Betrayer arrived, launching a dreadclaw drop pod assault on Amthal.

Despite the bloodshed, the Death Company stood their ground. In the ensuing battle, the favored of Khorne clashed with Death Company Chaplain Danor, who led Khah into a trap – an Imperial Reav Class Titan of the Legio Metallica. This marked the beginning of a counter-offensive that decimated the traitor forces.

But the enemy was relentless, and despite the best efforts of Asaroth and Chaplain Donor, the Blood Angels’ ranks began to thin. Yet, hope was not lost. Spearheaded by the ferocious Chaplain Lamar, the Death Company launched a countercharge, dictating the battle’s shape rather than waiting to be overwhelmed.

The cost was high, with over 90% of the Death Company falling before the God Engines of the Legio Metalica reached the battle. But their sacrifice was not in vain. The Titans’ advance fractured the enemy forces, allowing Asaroth and his remaining forces to extract.

In the wake of the battle, the surviving forces of Khorne scattered, leaving a battlefield scarred by the Blood Angels’ defiance and the traitor’s brutality. The war was far from over, but one thing was certain – the Blood Angels would stand, no matter the cost.
