Welcome back, fellow Warhammer 40,000 enthusiasts, to another thrilling installment in our ongoing deep dive into the lore of the 41st Millennium. Today we’re going to focus on one of the more epic confrontations in the Imperium’s history, the assault on the Archen enemy’s planetary stronghold.
This grand assault was meticulously orchestrated, with the fleet assault being split into four waves, each with its own strategic objective and timing. The first wave was led by the indomitable Admiral Christor, whose rapid attack warships arrived in-system a full 16 solar hours before the battle was set to begin. Christor brilliantly used the local star to hide his fleet formations from the enemy's detection grids, a move as daring as it was innovative.
The second wave, under the command of Vice Admiral Garor, arrived five solar hours later, maintaining position within the system's sugar and hydrocarbon clouds, just beyond the system’s edge. The arrival of these two waves in readiness, undetected, was a masterstroke of tactical genius.
The third wave, led by the resolute Admiral Shaver, made its move at the beginning of the attack. This primary assault force translated directly into the inner system zone, leading an audacious assault on the high and low anchor stations and orbital batteries. Once Shaver signalled engagement, Christor's forces struck quickly and devastatingly against the orbital dock facilities. Garor's wave swiftly followed suit, moving in-system from behind to prepare for the surface assault.
The fourth wave, under Vice Admiral Sunlock, arrived carrying the mass reinforcement divisions. By the end of hour 21 of the hostilities, the Imperial forces had achieved orbital superiority, and began a ruthless planetary bombardment against key surface targets.
Hour 33 saw the start of the planetary drop, with Astra Militarum forces delivered to the surface. The ground assault, however, was brutal and unforgiving. Intense fighting erupted in the vast hive cities, with Bopis being one such city that saw staggering levels of combat. The fight in Bopis was so fierce that it claimed a heavy toll among senior guard officers, including General Carl and his successors.
This chaos led to an unexpected promotion for Commander Mararo, who was raised to the brevit rank of Marshall. Meanwhile, Warmaster SLO, leading the second largest Imperial Army ever fielded, was carving a bloody path into the heart of the enemy's stronghold.
The final assault lasted for ten grueling solar days, with the sustained orbital bombardment reducing the terrain to rubble and creating a series of mud lakes. Despite these terrible conditions, the Imperial forces, bolstered by the fearsome Astartes from both the White Scars and the Silver Guard Chapters, managed to make headway against the enemy.
By day nine, the precinct of the oligarchy had been taken, and SLO drove his left flank into the Resolute Oligarchy Gate. The first to reach this crucial point was the Huran 8th Regiment, marking a significant milestone in this titanic battle.
So, there we have it, a snapshot of the epic assault on the Archen enemy's stronghold. Stay tuned for the next installment, where we'll continue to delve into the rich tapestry that is the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
