The Rise of Metalica and Nurgle’s Plague Invasion – Part 1

Title: “Metallica: A Beacon of Sterile Perfection in the Vastness of the Ultima Segmentum”

In the annals of the Imperium’s expansive history, a tale often overlooked is the saga of the world known now as Metallica, a planet of hissing pistons and blazing forges, its surface a shimmering expanse of lifeless metal. This world has an origin story as intriguing as its name, steeped in courage, fortitude, and the relentless pursuit of knowledge.

Metallica’s story began before the Imperium even knew of its existence. The planet’s first colonists were likely descendants of the crew of one of the first Mechanicum Ark ships. These brave souls experienced the terror and thrill of the first warp jumps, attempted without the aid of astropaths. Their mission was one of desperation and courage, a leap into the dark void of the great ocean. Misfortune befell them, as the unpredictable currents of the warp twisted their hull and warped their engines. They were forced to escape into real space, and by sheer chance, or perhaps a twist of fate, they found themselves in the midst of unexplored stars. Here, they discovered their new home, a shining giant in the Ultima Segmentum.

The exact date of Metallica’s discovery by the Imperium remains lost to time, but it’s believed to have occurred during the early stages of the Great Crusade. It was the 1,159th Expeditionary Fleet that first noticed this peculiar planet, its surface completely covered in metal. Misjudging the planet for an enemy celestial body, an ambitious commander ordered an attack, only to have his fleet swept away by defensive weaponry.

Shortly after, Tech priests identified similarities between the defensive ships and the standard template constructs accepted in the Imperium. As communication channels were established and negotiations began, it was revealed that the metallic sphere was not xenos in origin. Instead, it was a testament to the millennia-long labor of Magos, who had eradicated all organic life in their pursuit of the glory of the Omnia, under conditions of blessed sterility.

Following negotiations, the forge world pledged loyalty to Mars and was christened as Metallica in the Imperial annals. Over time, they distanced themselves from Mars’s influence, yet their emblem still bore the red hammer and clenched fist in recognition of their kinship with the Red Planet.

Metallica’s warriors don the white garments signifying the sterile perfection of their lifeless world and the blessed purity of their machines. Complementing the subdued white, they use red to highlight the cog trim on the robes of Electro priests or to mark the hulls of Kastelan Robots. The scarlet masks they wear serve as a reminder of their integral role in the history of the Adeptus Mechanicus.

Rumors swirl that the Metallican priesthoods paint their combat robots red as an homage to the blood spilled in battles. Vanguard and Rangers dawn metallic armor and white cloaks with a red lining while Sicarian units prefer white armor, eschewing red altogether. The Skitarii feature a gray metallic color made from the same alloy that coats Metallica’s surface.

This planet, almost entirely metal, with no flora or fauna, its atmosphere hostile to organic life, is the epitome of sterile perfection. It wasn’t always so; the Cult Mechanicus purposefully cleansed it so their work could proceed in blessed sterility. In this world devoid of organic distractions, their quest for knowledge thrives.

Though barren of life, Metallica is teeming with activity. Each dawn, legions of mechanical beasts, powered by internal engines, march out of the furnace complexes. The continuous sonic barrage from the operation of countless factories and manufactorums echo from its metallic peaks, a symphony of industry that is both deafening and inspiring.

Everything produced by Metallica bears a distinctive roaring sound. Seeing their weapons and machinery as extensions of their faith, the followers of Omnia engineer them to ensure enemies can hear and feel their power before their demise. Among the most noted are the Titan maniples, the Legio Metallica or the “Iron Skulls,” as they’re unofficially known. Their records, filled with stories of victories and hardships, serve as a testament to the resilience of Metallica and its defenders.

Despite its harsh reality, Metallica stands as a beacon of sterile perfection, a testament to the indomitable will of the cult Mechanicus, and an integral cog in the grand machine that is the Imperium.
