Guilliman Lives: The Return of the Avenging Son – Part 1

Title: The Battle of Thessa and the Shrine of the Primarch: An Epic Tale of the Ultramarines

In the 121st year of the 31st Millennium, during the final days of the Great Scouring, Roboute Guilliman, the Primarch of the Ultramarines, assembled his legion and six successor chapters. Their mission? To pursue and extinguish the Daemon Primarch Fulgrim and his Emperor’s Children Legion, heralding a climactic showdown at Thessa.

Fulgrim, ever the cunning strategist, set a trap for the Ultramarines fleet, turning the hunters into the hunted. However, Guilliman, undeterred, led a select strike force aboard the Emperor’s Children’s flagship – the Pride of the Emperor. His goal was to confront Fulgrim and end the Daemon Primarch’s reign of terror.

Upon entering the ship’s corrupted Heliopolis, Guilliman faced Fulgrim alone. The daemon attempted to lure Guilliman into the worship of the Chaos Gods, just as he had. Yet, Guilliman, in his steadfast loyalty, refused. This refusal sparked a duel between the two primarchs, where it quickly became evident that Guilliman was outmatched by Fulgrim’s warp-enhanced strength and his grotesque new demonic form.

With defeat looming, Guilliman called upon his Ultramarines. As they stormed the Heliopolis, Fulgrim summoned his grotesque horde of Emperor’s Children, turning the confrontation into a chaotic melee. Despite the reinforcements, Fulgrim emerged victorious, leaving Guilliman fatally wounded.

In his final moments, Guilliman wondered how Fulgrim had managed to deliver such a blow. Fulgrim’s chilling response revealed his warp-infused vision had spotted a scar left by Cor Phaeron during the Battle of Calth. Guilliman collapsed, unconscious, only to be teleported back to the Ultramarine flagship, the Gauntlet of Power, along with the surviving Ultramarines.

In the grim aftermath, the Emperor’s Children slaughtered Guilliman’s fleet, with the Gauntlet of Power being one of the few loyalist warships to escape. Back on Macragge, the Shrine of the Primarch was erected, becoming a holy place within the Imperium and attracting millions of pilgrims every Terran year.

This shrine, located within the Temple of Correction, is a marvel of Ultramarine construction. Its grandeur and intricate detail reflect the meticulous nature of the Ultramarines. A testament to their devotion to Guilliman, the temple is said to have enough marble to build a mountain and enough adamantium and plasti to construct an Imperial War Fleet.

At the heart of this magnificent edifice was the great marble Throne of Roboute Guilliman, upon which his regal body sat, frozen in time. Preserved by a stasis field, his mortal remains were untouched by the passage of time, his fatal wounds from Fulgrim’s blade visible even after 10,000 years.

To the believers and the hopeful, rumors spread that the Primarch’s wounds were slowly healing, hinting at a miraculous recovery. Whether true or not, these tales attracted countless visitors to witness the supposed miracle of the Primarch.

In the millennia following the loss of their Primarch, the Ultramarines stood resolute, defending the Galaxy from countless invasions. Their heroism shone brightest during the onslaught of the Tyranid Hive Fleet Behemoth, proving once again the might of the Sons of Ultramar.

Stay tuned for our next installment, as we delve further into the rich lore of Warhammer 40,000, exploring the Ultramarines’ clash with the Star Riders of Creth and their retaliation for the Heavenfall Massacres.
