Welcome back, fellow scholars of the grim darkness of the far future! Today, we delve into the hallowed hierarchy of the Adeptus Mechanicus, the tech-priests of Mars, and their insatiable pursuit of ancient technology and precious knowledge.
Our journey starts with a particular Magos named Kubic. His reign was marked by the brutal War of the Beast, a tumultuous period in the Imperium’s history. Next on the throne of the Red Planet was Gustav Hedi Atric, ruling Mars amidst the chaos of the Age of Apostasy. Following him was Wixot, who bore witness to the Eighth Black Crusade. Today, the ruler of Mars is the enigmatic OD Udia Rasan. However, whispers suggest Belisarius Cawl, a brilliant and controversial figure, is eyeing the seat. Despite his ambition, his requests for promotion have been continually rejected by Fabricator Locom Gelman. Intriguingly, there are rumors that these requests weren’t sent by Cawl himself, but by one of his ingenious creations.
Diving deeper, we find the second most influential position in the Mechanicus hierarchy, the Fabricator Loom, the deputy to the Fabricator General. Each Forge World has its own Fabricator Locom, though all are subordinate to the Fabricator Locom of Mars, the second in command of the entire Adeptus Mechanicus.
In the ancient data logs of Inquisitor Casas, we discover mentions of three well-known Fabricator Looms. When Zagas Cain was promoted, his previous position was filled by Tragia Dian. Interestingly, Dian served as the Fabricator Loom for all loyal Tech Priests who remained faithful to Terra. Casas’s logs also mention Urius Omnicron, the notorious Fabricator Locom of the Forge World Estban 7, who sided with Horus during the infamous Siege of Riser.
Beyond this, we journey into the sacred orders of the Cult Mechanicus: Magos Genitors, Logus, and Artisans. This is a complex organization steeped in secret rituals and ceremonial processions, a web of tech-priests of various ranks vying for supremacy. The only path to power here is through the acquisition of technology and knowledge. These tech-priests lead armies of workers, dedicating themselves to the Omnissiah, transforming their bodies beyond recognition in servitude to the Machine God.
The term “Tech-Priest” is a broad one, encompassing thousands of roles within the Adeptus Mechanicus. Genitors explore the mysteries of life, creating bizarre cyborgs or dissecting xenos species to unlock their secrets. Artisans, meanwhile, create and restore wondrous instruments of war, from ornate gamma pistols to vast, awe-inspiring space arks.
Each Forge World is led by a Fabricator General. Reporting to them is a Fabricator Locom, who can summon various Magi specializing in fields such as cybernetics, metalogy, alchemy, data spindle, techno assassins, hive wardens, and sacred reclaimators. These individuals command groups of junior fabricators, Corpus Scari overseers, Stasis Scribes, and Techno Dervishes, each with a unique role in the grand machine of the Adeptus Mechanicus.
Among these ranks, a Magos who has mastered their chosen field to perfection has the right to be called an Arch Magos. Rumors suggest that there is another little-known rank – the Overseer of the Emperor, a tech-priest of this rank commands a Vessel World belonging to a Forge World. As you can see, the Adeptus Mechanicus is an intricate machine, with numerous cogs and gears working in harmony.
During warfare, to avoid confusion, the most senior tech-priests assume the title of Tech-Priest Dominus. These individuals are architects of destruction, capable of reducing entire worlds to ashes. The Dominus commands not through diplomacy, but through relentless and ruthless application of military force.
Stay tuned for the next installment, where we continue our exploration of the Adeptus Mechanicus and their pursuit of knowledge in the grim darkness of the far future.
