Welcome, loyal followers of the Omnissiah, to the next thrilling installment in our multi-part series exploring the electrifying lore of the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Today, we delve deep into the riveting saga of the Fulgurites and the Corpuscarii, two factions of the Electro-Priests with a radically different understanding of the Motive Force, that divine bioelectricity that animates the galaxy.
Fulgurites, also known as the Brotherhood of Petrified Lightning, are masters of energy appropriation. They are the galactic leeches, draining life energy, particularly bioelectricity, from their victims much like the Katak and Megal leeches draw blood. This is their fundamental principle: to seize the Life Energy of the Galaxy and repurpose it for the Omnissiah, thus reviving the Motive Force and reinforcing it with the power they’ve seized.
Their mission isn’t a simple energy grab, though; it’s a sacred crusade. Fulgurites believe that only those deemed worthy by the Machine God can possess his unearthly grace of galvanic power. They would rather plunge a world that does not glorify the Omnissiah into eternal night than allow them to misuse the Motive Force. To waste energy or allow a non-believer to use it is a sin.
In battle, Fulgurites prefer a more personal approach. They march into combat bare-chested, wielding long Electro-leaching staffs that can siphon the bioelectricity from their enemies, storing it in powerful capacitors for later use. The victims of their strikes are left as cold, immobile corpses while the Fulgurites move on, reinvigorated by their sacred labors, their deadly staffs crackling with accumulated energy.
In stark contrast to the Fulgurites are the Corpuscarii, who are so deeply committed to the Motive Force that they seek to share its splendor with every living being and machine. They see their duty as illuminating the Galaxy, bringing non-believers into the light. They willingly summon lightning in battle, hurling deadly discharges at the enemy with their electrostatic gauntlets, granting their victims a brief moment of ecstasy before death.
The vocation of an Electro-Priest is not for the frail. It requires rigorous conditioning and preparation of the body to host the sacred energy of the Motive Force. Both factions are unable to see as ordinary humans do; their eyeballs stream down their cheeks in a phenomenon known as the Tears of Amnesia. But through this sacrifice, they can sense the electromagnetic imprint of both friend and foe, perceiving the world as a sparkling landscape formed by the Motive Force.
The schism between the Corpuscarii and the Fulgurites dates back to pre-Imperial times. The Corpuscarii believed the Machine God’s energy should be brought to the Galaxy, expending significant resources in religious crusades. The Fulgurites, however, were horrified at the cost, jealously guarding the Motive Force.
Stay tuned for the next installment, as we traverse deeper into the dynamic dichotomy of these factions, and explore the path they’ve taken through the ages. Until then, may the Omnissiah guide you.
