The celestial saga of the Winged Primarch, a paragon of exceptional skills and undying allegiance, is one that echoes through the ages. Blessed by the Emperor himself, Sanguinius was bestowed the unique privilege of withholding the Imperial Truth from Baal, the second moon of which would remain untouched by Imperial craft, save on his command. The bloodline of Baal, the Blood Angels, would continue their existence as they always had, adding a fascinating hue to the grand tapestry of the Angels’ Pact.
The tale continues as Sanguinius, the chosen servant of the Emperor, embarked on his journey to understand the Art of War. Under the tutelage of Horus, he immersed himself in the intricacies of battles fought amongst the stars and the labyrinthine workings of the vast Imperium the Emperor was forging. This journey fostered a strong bond between Sanguinius and his mentor, a relationship that would shape the future of the Ninth Legion.
The reunion of the Ninth Legion was a monumental task. Scattered across distant war zones, it took many solar months to locate and recall each band of the legion. The gathering, completed on the storm-ravaged world of Tegar, took two standard years and four solar months. There, an army of grim killers with angelic faces assembled, their captains known as the blood-soaked Angels of the Great Crusade, eager for a new conflict.
From stormbird transports bearing the mark of the Lunar Wolves descended warriors clad in the white of Horus’s own Legion. However, the figure leading them was not Horus; it was the true son of the Emperor, Sanguinius. Standing tall, his great white wings revealed, he echoed the features of those around him, forming an ethereal mirror image. The sight was one to behold, yet the warriors, hardened by relentless battles and marked by scars, were not easily impressed.
In a surprising act of humility and respect, the Winged Primarch kneeled before his warriors, pledging his allegiance to them instead of demanding theirs. This act of loyalty, offered freely and without reservation, won him the devotion of his men. He would cement this bond in the fires of battle as he led the legion on their first campaign together, demonstrating his valor in the front lines.
The storm-ravaged fifth planet of the Tar system, Tegar Pentus, was the battlefield where Sanguinius fought to earn the loyalty of his legion. Amidst the chaos of combat, he shed his blood and came to understand the true nature of his sons. He observed the bloodlust and eerie hunger that permeated his legion’s core, recognizing it as a reflection of his inner darkness.
Yet, even amidst the heat of battle, the warriors of the Ninth Legion retained a spark of nobility and martial pride. They fought not just for slaughter but for victory, adhering to their own codes of honor with unyielding resolve. These virtues would become Sanguinius’s weapons in the battle for the Ninth Legion’s soul.
At the conclusion of the battle for Tegar, he declared, “Even though a darkness hangs over them, a future soaked in blood and horror, they are angels yet, angels of blood.” The Ninth Legion, once known as the Revenant Legion, had been reborn and earned a new name – the Blood Angels.
The newly named Blood Angels did not return in full force to Baal. Instead, Sanguinius sought the assistance of Horus, his brother, and mentor. Sanguinius then divided his legion, now bearing new heraldry to honor their Primarch and reflect their new name, and assigned each company. Thus, the saga of the Blood Angels continues, a testament to the unwavering loyalty and the enduring legacy of the Winged Primarch.
