Why Did Necrons Turn Their Worlds into Tombs? – Part 3

Welcome back, Warhammer 40,000 enthusiasts and aficionados! We’re diving back into our multi-part series examining the fascinating lore of the Necron Dynasties. This piece will focus on two of the most compelling dynasties: the Chanok Dynasty and the Sautekh Dynasty. Buckle up, as we journey through the cosmos, navigating the tumultuous history of these ancient houses.

First up is the Chanok Dynasty, a once-mighty force that has now been reduced to mere shards of its former glory. They suffered greatly during the Great Sleep, their tombs ravaged by the Tyranids fleets, The Behemoth in particular. However, they still exist, albeit in a fragmented form, their tomb worlds scattered across the cosmos. Amid the ongoing conflict between the Tyranids and the Imperium, the Chanok persist.

Their story is deeply entwined with the world of Zarak, but their main focus now is Bik, situated within the Ultima Segmentum. A stark reminder that even in the vast, cosmic theatre of Warhammer 40,000, even the mightiest can fall.

Moving eastwards to the fringes of space, we find the Sautekh Dynasty. With a territory encompassing a staggering 80 tomb worlds, the Sautekh are one of the mightiest Necron dynasties. Their crown world is Mandragora, a testament to their unrivalled power. The stasis crypts of this dynasty house the most elite Necron warriors, survivors of the War in Heaven, poised to seize control of the galaxy after the Great Sleep.

But the Sautekh’s journey has not been without its hurdles. The demise of their Phaeron on the crown tomb world of Mandra Gora during the Great Sleep plunged the dynasty into decades of power struggles. This stalemate persisted until the awakening of Imotekh the Stormlord. Recognizing the urgent need for leadership, Imotekh rallied an army, declared his claim to the throne, and swiftly restored the grandeur of the Sautekh Dynasty.

But even in the Sautekh’s power structure, there exists a curious outlier: Xandre. Residing on the tomb world of Grim, Xandre transformed his realm into a mini Crown World for the Sautekh, annexing a dozen star systems to his new empire. Despite the damage to his mind during the Great Sleep, Xandre is a military genius, capturing military leaders and treating them as equals. His methods may perplex his court, but his formidable stature, complemented by his formidable aide Oberon, keeps dissent at bay.

Imotekh, the current Overlord, does not see Xandre as a threat but rather a loyal subject. There’s a rumour that Xandre fully comprehends everything and simply chooses to cosplay his younger self from the times he was a Necrontyr, making his life much more amusing. But what’s crucial is that Imotekh, the Storm Lord, has no objections.

The Sautekh Dynasty is also notable for Imotekh’s burning hatred for the Orks. Their logic baffles him, and he has set his ambitious goal to annihilate all Orks across the Galaxy. Not one to rest on his laurels, Imotekh is continually expanding his territories and even absorbing smaller dynasties.

Case in point, the Ain Moro Dynasty, which swore allegiance to Imotekh to protect their tomb World Sumor from an invasion by the Eldar from the Craft World Aletto. The Eldar assault, led by Starban, was thwarted by the united forces of the Sautekh and Ain Moro. Imotekh’s fierce defense and penchant for limb severance ensured Starban returned home to Aletto minus a right hand.

As we continue our exploration, we’ll be delving into another ancient dynasty: the Nekthyst. But that’s a tale for another installment…

So, stay tuned, fellow lore seekers, as we continue our journey through the cosmos, uncovering the histories, battles, and power struggles of the mighty Necron Dynasties.
