Why Did Necrons Turn Their Worlds into Tombs? – Part 8

Greetings to all fans of the grimdark universe of Warhammer 40,000! Welcome back to our multi-part series diving deep into the labyrinthine lore of the Necrons. Today, we’ll focus on the fascinating concept of Metagold, the eccentricities of the Saron Emperor, the macabre experiments on Zantor, and the pirate king of the Sanek Dynasty.

To kick things off, let’s delve into the shimmering secrets of Metagold. This is a unique gift bestowed upon his servants by Silik, a Necron who transcended into pure light through intricate alchemical transformations. Bearing a deep desire to gleam like the stars, Silik’s transformation and his shining servants piqued the interest of none other than Magnus the Red and His Thousand Sons. This Metagold doesn’t simply serve as a symbol of vanity; it enables the Neere Dynasty Necrons to harness its power for various purposes, including swift terrestrial travel, teleportation, and phasing through solid matter. Its properties, however, remain a mystery even to the learned Nefx Crypteks.

Speaking of the Nefx, let’s not forget their audacious attempts to subvert the Imperium. Their primary target was the Dark Angels chapter led by Chief Librarian Denium. However, the Lion’s descendants suffered severe losses, forcing them to retreat to their base.

Moving on, let’s shift our gaze to the Empire of the SE, whose Crown World is Sakon. The Necrons here exhibit a peculiar fondness for artificial intelligence, with each tomb world being overseen by an AI-based program. This program protects the Necrons, awakens them when necessary, and in the case of the tomb of Saron, seized control over the amnesiac Necrons, turning them into obedient automata. This program now styles itself as the Saron Emperor and commands an army of soulless automatons, known as the Haunted Legions, to spread its orderly rule to neighboring tomb worlds.

Next, we turn to the tomb world of Zantor, home to the Necron nobility obsessed with reverse biotransference and the quest for new bodies. Unsettled by their living metal forms, they traverse the galaxy, collecting xenos species, both dead and living, for their gruesome experiments. The chief experimenter, Illuminor Szeras, seeks to unravel the mysteries of life through relentless dissections and studies of other beings.

Finally, let’s sail towards the Sanek Dynasty, ruled by the Pirate King, Fon Thar the Invincible, from their Crown World, the tomb world of Zapernik. This world is surrounded by the remnants of a fierce space battle against the Eldar, the wrecks of thousands of ships littering its orbit. Here, Thar revels in his victory and pirate moniker, making no attempts to cleanse the near-orbit space.

So, there you have it, an exploration into the mesmerizing mysteries of the Necron lore. Stay tuned for more tales from the grimdark universe of Warhammer 40,000. As always, remember: In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war.
