Welcome back, fellow lore enthusiasts to another deep dive into the chaotic, grim universe of Warhammer 40,000. Today, we’re taking a closer look at a dark chapter in the history of the Imperium and the Brazen Drakes Chapter, a tale of treachery, rebellion, and a relentless pursuit of survival in the 41st Millennium.
Our story unfolds on the bridge of the Lux Imperius, where the imperious Custodian, Tyer, demands the capitulation of Gion and his warriors. Accused of carrying a defective genan seed, their very existence is seen as a threat to the Imperium. But Gion and his warriors are not so easily subdued. One warrior’s protest is silenced by swift execution, igniting a fierce battle that ends in Gion’s death and the slaying of around a dozen Gray Shields.
In the aftermath, Tyer vows to exterminate the renegade Brazen Drakes — a reminder that even the mightiest and most glorious are but stardust in the grand scheme of the cosmos. In this merciless world, everything and everyone is disposable, and the slightest hint of heresy or insubordination can mean instant execution.
Meanwhile, the Enlightener, Argenta Coran, gathers the surviving remnants of the chapter and heads for the cold safety of the Nund Gauntlet, a dark corner of the Imperium. Hot on their trail is the torchbearer fleet led by Shield Captain Tyer, who has already destroyed the Brazen Drakes’ Primaris creation technology and finished off the surviving Gray Shields.
But the Brazen Drakes’ betrayal has not gone unnoticed. Word has reached Terra through secret channels, and another Imperial force has mobilized its elite assets to hunt down Argento Coran.
As our heroes flee towards their uncertain future, elsewhere in the galaxy, the mad scientist and great schemer, Febus B, is putting his ambitious plans into action. Rumors of his activities buzz across the warp, whispering tales of cloned Primarchs, armies of monsters, and weapons capable of felling the godlike Guilliman.
The first hint of his grand plan comes to light with the theft of the Arc Corner Contagious, a terrifying artifact filled with nightmarish afflictions, gifted to the Death Guard by the great unclean one named Riger. A boon for the Death Guard, a curse for the rest, this relic induces uncontrollable bodily regeneration, reducing even the mightiest to a heap of diseased flesh. Pursued by Typhus the Traveller’s fleet, Febus B flees with his prize, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake.
As fate or perhaps the dark gods would have it, Febus B’s path intersects with Argento Coran, who has been fighting under the banners of the Black Legion and preparing for the impending Imperial assault. Seeing an opportunity, Febus B and Argento Coran form a volatile alliance based on mutual distrust and a thirst for gain. And so, the War of the Spider begins on the surface of Desa, under the light of poisonous stars.
In the next part of our series, we’ll delve deeper into the War of the Spider. How does this alliance fare in the face of the Imperial onslaught? What role does the Arc Corner Contagious play in shaping the future of the Brazen Drakes and the Imperium at large? Stay tuned, lore enthusiasts, as we continue our exploration of the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
