If you’ve been tracking the saga of the Shriven and their unexpected dance with Typhus, then you’re in for a treat. The latest episodes are filled with ego clashes, daring decisions, and an intriguing push and pull between power and vulnerability.
Argento Coran, the Shriven’s leader, found himself in a bitter predicament. Despite the successful outwitting of Typhus and the heavy damage inflicted upon him, Coran was left simmering in discontent. The source? The success of Fabius B, whose miraculous elixir was winning him favor amongst the Shriven. Coran felt his authority waning as his blood pulsed with the chemical compounds of B’s concoction. But rather than confront the parasite he had invited into his stronghold, Coran decided to remind the Shriven who their true leader was.
In a universe where life is cheap, and entire fleets vanish in the blink of an eye, ego tends to inflate to dramatic proportions. Every man of substance thirsts to prove his worth, to demonstrate his authority, influence, and control. This is precisely what Coran aimed to do.
Demonic whispers and predictions revealed that the Imperial Forces of Retribution were just a few short warp jumps away. Coran’s men reported that their enemies had halted in the Bellis Corona system, hovering around the world of Burston Prime. Coran, ever defiant, declared he would not hide or wait for enemy attacks. Instead, he would strike first. Gathering his forces, he set course for the Bellis Corona system.
Meanwhile, Shield Captain Tyer led his Torchbearers through the war-torn Nund Gauntlet, along the border of the Vigilus war zone and further to the very edge of the Eye of Terror. Their path was perilous, fraught with danger and hostile forces at every warp jump. Yet, Tyer and his companions remained steadfast, their goal unyielding.
Upon reaching the Bellis Corona system, they found their hopes of retrofitting in the Imperial docks dashed. The Mighty Fortress was under siege. They moved into high orbit over Bston Prime, hoping the tech priests overseeing the duralium mines could assist. Instead, they found an abandoned world, broadcasting warnings to steer clear of the accursed planet.
Undeterred, Tyer descended to the surface in hopes of acquiring necessary resources from the rusty bunkers of Refinery 16. However, his surprise was monumental when the Shriven fleet suddenly emerged from the warp in the Bellis Corona system.
Caught in the midst of repairs, the Torchbearer fleet could do little more than fend off and protect their vulnerable ore transports. Uninterested in the Imperial ships, Coran set his sights on the planet below, vowing to personally kill Shield Captain Tyer.
Coran’s armored ships and landing modules swarmed from his cruisers, descending upon the equatorial mining plexes of Biston. Despite the overwhelming odds, Tyer managed to awaken the crews of the Icarus air defense towers, sending clouds of flak shells at the Shriven’s descending ships.
In the midst of this chaos, Fabius Bile redirected the Shriven, adding another twist to this thrilling chronicle. The story continues, so stay tuned for the next update in this multi-part saga. The universe of Warhammer 40,000 never disappoints.
