Welcome back, fellow lore enthusiasts, to another episode in our multi-part series diving into the intricate and often elusive truths of the Warhammer 40,000 cosmos. Today, we delve into the provocative and unsettling events surrounding Lorgar, the Primark, and his relentless quest for answers. Buckle up, as we unravel the webs woven by deities, demons, and the complexities of faith.
Lorgar, the undeterred scholar of the divine, had always been a point of contention among the Emperor's Bodyguards, the Custodes. Their disdain for Lorgar's fascination with superstitions was no secret, and their vocal objections often led to heated philosophical debates. Argel Tal, a voice of reason amidst the ideological chaos, often found himself defending Lorgar's visions, even when they strained his patience.
However, one night, Argel Tal's faith in Lorgar's righteousness was tested. He and Vendatha, one of the Custodes, stumbled upon a gruesome scene: Lorgar observing a pagan ritual led by the enigmatic Ingethel. The sight was horrifying, with nine impaled victims and Ingethel dancing naked, her body adorned with Colchisian runes. The horrific spectacle was enough to send chills down the spine of the bravest Space Marine.
Argel Tal, along with Vendatha, believed the ritual needed to be stopped. But to their surprise, Lorgar was entranced, deeming the bloodshed a necessary step towards enlightenment. Vendatha's attempt to intervene resulted in a bloody skirmish, ending with him severely wounded by Argel Tal in defense of Lorgar.
As if the scene wasn't grotesque enough, Ingethel persuaded Lorgar to use the dying Vendatha as the tenth offering for the ritual. Despite his loyalty to Lorgar, Argel Tal couldn't stand idly by, trying to shield Vendatha with his own body. But his efforts were in vain, as Lorgar threatened to make him the eleventh sacrifice if he didn't step aside.
The climax of the gruesome event was the transformation of Ingethel the Chosen into Ingethel the Ascended, a monstrous daemon. The sight was enough to induce nausea, but Lorgar remained undeterred, entranced by the promise of answers in exchange for the lives of his sons. A realization hit Argel Tal, the Primark would willingly sacrifice them in his relentless pursuit of truth.
Ingethel the Ascended then took the Word Bearers to the Eye of Terror, a place where Gods and mortals meet. The first to bear this burden was the Serrated Sun Chapter, whose mere glimpse of the daemon resulted in their inevitable descent into madness, culminating in their death upon entering the Eye of Terror.
What unfolded next was a revelation of the Eye of Terror's origins and the reasons for the Warp's invasion of real space. The Word Bearers were made to witness the fall of the Eldar, a cautionary tale of civilization's self-destruction. Ingethel the Ascended claimed that humanity was destined to follow suit, accusing the Emperor of allying with the Chaos Gods to create the Primarks.
To substantiate these claims, Argel Tal and his brothers were sent to the Emperor's laboratories, where they bore witness to the dark realities of their creation. This revelation marked a significant turning point in the saga, questioning the very foundations of their beliefs and existence.
Stay tuned for the next part of our series, where we continue to explore the ramifications of this revelation and its impact on the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
