What happened with Primarchs before Emperor found them? – Part 9

Welcome to the next thrilling installment of our multi-part series diving deep into the lore of Warhammer 40,000. Today, we’ll be exploring the savage conquests, brutal trials, and heart-wrenching loyalties of the Primarch known as Angron, and the origins of the revered Ultramarines’ Primarch, Roboute Guilliman. Prepare for a journey into the depths of their respective worlds, the turmoil they faced, and the legends they forged.

Once upon a time, on the battlefield littered with the remnants of war, a boy was found by a band of slavers known as the High Riders. This boy, Angron, was no ordinary child. Seeing his potential, the slavers took him to their capital and cast him into a pit with a towering Zigarette – a trial of blood and survival. Into this pit, they poured flesh-eating acid, and the arena of death became a free-for-all fight for survival. Angron, though young and frightened, emerged victorious, a testament to his inherent strength and resilience.

The pit was but the first trial for young Angron. He was then trained as a gladiator, a brutal and unforgiving existence where only the strongest survive. It was during this time that Angron formed a bond with a warrior named Enamas, who became a father figure for him. Together, they fought and won against two Berserker Ogrin Warriors in a team duel, marking the pinnacle of Angron’s rise as an undefeated gladiator.

However, the High Riders, the rulers of Desa, demanded a fight to the death between Angron and Enamas. Angron, refusing to kill his friend, insulted the High Riders. His punishment? The implantation of the Butcher’s Nails, a device that induced blind madness. In this frenzied state, Angron was unleashed upon Enamas and tore him apart. The grief and despair drove Angron to lead a slave revolt, gathering a massive army of gladiators and fleeing to the mountains.

Angron’s rebellion was met with relentless attacks from the civilized cities, but none could stand against the Primarch. However, even the mighty Angron could not save his army from starvation and exhaustion. In a final act of desperation, Angron gave his comrades his blood to sustain their lives. But before the final battle could ensue, the Emperor teleported directly to Angron’s location, promising him a legion, unlimited power, and a life spent perfecting the art of Conquest. Angron, surprisingly, refused, choosing instead to die among his comrades. The Emperor, against Angron’s will, teleported him back to the fleet, leaving Angron to watch in anguish as his comrades were annihilated.

Meanwhile, on the planet of Macragge, a pod carrying an infant fell to the ground. Discovered by nobles, the glowing child was brought to Konor, one of the ruling cons. This child, named Roboute Guilliman, was a prodigy. By the age of 10, Guilliman had mastered all the subjects taught to him and demonstrated an astonishing understanding of history, philosophy, and science. His greatest talent, however, lay in command.

Guilliman was given control of an expeditionary corps in Yium, a mountainous region terrorized by wild inhabitants. Rather than engaging in prolonged guerilla warfare, Guilliman occupied the Yyan holy sites, forcing the savages to confront him. In a masterful display of strategy and respect, Guilliman challenged their leader to a duel. Instead of crushing his exhausted opponent, Guilliman gifted him the most sacred religious artifact of the Yyans, earning their respect and ensuring the safety of the civilized regions of Macragge.

The tales of Angron and Guilliman are filled with blood, bravery, and at times, brutal tragedy. They are the stories of legends, shaped by the trials they faced and the worlds they were thrust into. Join us in the next installment as we delve deeper into the gritty lore of Warhammer 40,000.
