Typhus’ Corruption: The Fall of the Death Guard’s Hero – Part 1

In the treacherous landscape of Barbarus, a caravan of steam transporters trudged along a solitary mountain road, enveloped in clouds of deadly toxins. The peaks were the final destination for these transporters, often carrying a motley of Golems, grotesque beasts, and tribute from the inhabitants of the lowlands. On one such journey, a single transporter carried a peculiar cargo – a youth unlike any other, destined for the torture catacombs of the Overlords. A twist of fate, and the transporter plunged into a ditch, marking the beginning of the odyssey of the one who’d be known as Typhus the Traveler, Herald of Nurgle, and the host of the Destroyer Hive.

From an early age, Typhus, then known as Callus Typhon, had displayed otherworldly tendencies. His presence was an anomaly, causing objects to shatter or shudder when he was agitated, plants withering under his gaze. Alienated and misunderstood, rumors of his origin linked him to the horrific overlords of Barbarus, the entities that resided on the mountain tops amidst the toxic clouds. As he matured, Typhon mastered the psychic energies within him, becoming a formidable figure of terror and awe.

In the wreckage of the steam transporter, Typhon, clothed in mere rags, scrambled out of the overturned vehicle, gas mask in hand. Sinister Golems emerged from the accompanying transporters, their intent clear. Typhon, however, was not one to abandon his own. He attempted to aid the others, fellow Landers who shared resilience but were ill-equipped to survive the poisonous atmosphere.

Their desperate quest for sanctuary led them to the nearest citadel, their pursuers hot on their heels. It was then that Typhon noticed a tall, lean figure observing them through the toxic mist. This observer, none other than Mortarion, the future Primarch, was intrigued by the young man’s audacity and resolve. Typhon, wielding a piece of metal as a blade, demanded Mortarion’s assistance, his words filled with a stirring mix of desperation and confidence.

Mortarion, compelled by the youth’s courage and the peculiar powers he displayed, joined the survivors in their battle against the Golems. He was astounded by Typhon’s control over the giant earthworms, a gift he’d only seen among the Overlords. The two fought side by side, their combined might annihilating the Golems.

However, the battle took a turn when Typhon was stunned by a Golem’s club. Mortarion, quick to react, saved him. The battlefield fell silent, the alarm signaling the arrival of Nikari, the punisher of rebels. Mortarion was prepared to stand his ground, but Typhon persuaded him otherwise. Typhon had asked for Mortarion’s help, and he had received it. The tale of Typhus, the Herald of Nurgle, was just beginning.
