Title: Mortarion and the Unyielding Might of the Death Guard
In the grim darkness of Warhammer 40,000, Mortarion, the Primarch of the Death Guard legion, stands as an unyielding bastion against the oppression and terror that threatens humanity. His doctrine, built on resilience and extreme resolve, seeks not just survival, but liberation from those who have shackled and consumed human civilization. His vision of freedom is one of uncompromising battle, a future where treaties and mercy are relics of a bygone era. After all, to protect humanity’s future, you must first be ready to endure any hardship, no matter how dreadful.
This relentless determination and exceptional resilience have earned Mortarion the respect of his brothers. Ferrus Manus, the Gorgon, openly admired Mortarion and considered him an ally he would choose above all others. To Mortarion, the liberation of humanity is his primary goal, and for that, any means are justified.
Mortarion’s influence also extended to the aesthetic and practical aspects of his legion. The power armor of the Death Guard, once adorned with the decorations of the old Terran heraldry, became stripped of embellishments and painted a different hue. The Primarch disdainfully disbanded the Librarians, viewing their psychic powers as reminiscent of the monstrous powers wielded by his foster father, a past he wished to sever ties with.
Under his watchful eye, the legion’s tactical doctrines were revised, equipment enhanced, and recruits underwent surgical alterations. The Death Guard became a force to be reckoned with – a legion sculpted in the image of their unwavering Primarch.
Meanwhile, Barbarus, the homeworld of Mortarion, languished in its poisonous atmosphere. Despite the grim swamps and mist-covered mountains teeming with grotesque creatures, Mortarion refused to uproot his people. He believed that the hardships of Barbarus would forge the strongest sons, a conviction further reinforced by the resilience shown by his legion, the Death Guard.
The Death Guard’s resilience was not lost on Horus, the Warmaster. He recognized the strength of the 14th Legion and often combined their efforts with his own Lunar Wolves. This alliance brought brilliant results, fostering a strong bond between Mortarion and Horus, and leading some, like Roboute Guilliman, to question Mortarion’s loyalty. The Emperor, however, dismissed these concerns, trusting in the loyalty of his sons.
During the Great Crusade, the Death Guard were instrumental in the cleansing of the Fallon system. They encountered the Joral, a xenos species using body modifications and limb replacements as a form of cultural celebration. Despite the psychic abilities of some Joral mutants, the Death Guard, along with the Sisters of Silence, easily eradicated the threat.
Despite his allegiance to Horus, Mortarion expressed caution at Lupercal’s appointment as Warmaster. He believed that any Primarch could have received such an honor, given enough time by the Emperor’s side. Mortarion’s statement echoes his unwavering focus on the larger goal – the liberation of humanity. For him, loyalty is not just about personal bonds, but about unwavering commitment to the bigger cause.
