What Led to the Fall of Cadia? – Part 3

Welcome back, fellow Warhammer 40,000 enthusiasts, to another thrilling installment in our deep dive into the fascinating lore of the 41st millennium. Today, we focus on the iconic planet of Cadia and the desperate measures taken by Lord Castellan Ursarkar E. Creed to stave off the forces of Chaos during the onset of the 13th Black Crusade.

Castellan Creed, in a move of desperate ingenuity, decided to rally all remaining psychers on Cadia. He hoped to connect them to the Beacon, a makeshift warp communication device. Despite the shortage of true astropaths, Creed believed that the bolstered psychic power from the Sanctioned Psychers of the Scalas Sikana could cut through the psychic storm surrounding Cadia and send out a plea for reinforcements.

This plan, as audacious as it was, wasn't without its detractors. Creed's officers viewed it as a reckless gamble, risking both their scarce resources and the possibility of opening the planet to the warp's malevolent forces. Yet, Creed, a man of humble origins, raised and bred amidst soldiers, shouldered the fate of Cadia and the Imperium.

As Creed prepared to execute his plan, an unexpected development arose. A single surviving ship from the Imperium's reconnaissance flotilla drifted into Cadia's outer orbit. Its hull was riddled with craters and breaches, a silent testament to the horrors it had endured. The majority of its crew were dead, and the survivors were succumbing to radiation sickness. The ship's only surviving officer transmitted a dire warning - the Black Fleet of Abaddon the Despoiler was inbound.

The Black Fleet, a horrifying armada of demonic ships and colossal war vessels, blotted out the stars themselves. At its heart was a reawakened Blackstone Fortress, a world-destroying machine of unfathomable ancient technology. The 13th Black Crusade was upon them, and the fate of Cadia hung in the balance.

Creed, a leader who led by example, joined his soldiers on the front lines. He shared their hardships, ate with them, and stood shoulder to shoulder with them on the ramparts, his lasgun ready to repel the invaders. He was often seen walking the Citadel's walls with his loyal adjutant, Sergeant Kell, carrying the standard of Cadia. The sight of their fearless commander and the battered banner bolstered the morale of the beleaguered defenders.

Meanwhile, the Battle Sisters, Space Wolves, and the remnants of the Dark Angels from Caliban were all thrown into the fray. They held off the tide of traitors, repelled assaults, and even managed to halt the enemy's advance, but at great cost.

The Citadel of Kasr Kraf was under heavy bombardment, its sacred mausoleum crumbling under the relentless onslaught. The Space Wolves, despite their fierce counterattack that slew the War Smith leading the traitors, lost half of their warriors. It was only the wise counsel of Wolfguard Olaf that prevented them from a suicidal attack against the approaching Titans of the Legio Vulcano.

Despite the odds, the defenders of Cadia stood their ground. The Dark Angels, hunkered down in the wreckage of their ship, the Sword of Defiance, blocked the invader's path. The battle raged on, with the fate of Cadia and the entire Imperium hanging in the balance.

Join us next time as we delve deeper into this thrilling saga. Until then, remember - in the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war.
