Why Are Eldar Aspect Warriors Feared Across the Galaxy? – Part 8

In the dire, eternal war that grips the Warhammer 40,000 universe, few figures cast a more menacing shadow than the Harvester of Souls, the Phoenix Lord Maugan Ra. This is the chilling tale of an Eldar hero, a relentless pursuer of death and destruction, whose dread reputation echoes across the cosmos and through the annals of Warhammer lore.

As the strands of fate would have it, Maugan Ra hailed from the artificial world of Alaitoc. A world that narrowly missed the psychic shockwave of the Fall, only to later be ensnared in the gravity chokehold of the Eye of Terror. Despite their valiant struggle, the Eldar of Alaitoc found themselves drawn inexorably into the immaterium. All but one, that is. The one who came to be known as the Harvester of Souls.

Maugan Ra was not just any Eldar, but an Exarch. The most skilled and respected of his kin, he was the founder of the Dark Reapers aspect. He was a scholar of death, crafting occult weapons of unparalleled lethality, perfecting the art of killing before his victims even had a chance to react. He was a master of the dark and the unknown, his affinity for enigmatic artifacts and weapons a testament to his singularity.

His most well-known creation? The Maugetar, a weapon as intimidating as its creator. A modified shuriken catapult that hurled deadly discs large enough to decapitate a row of enemies with a single shot. At the wielder’s mental command, the Maugetar could vanish, allowing for swift withdrawal. The scythe-like blade at the end of the barrel was the final touch, a grim nod to Maugan Ra’s fearsome reputation.

After his escape from the Eye of Terror, Maugan Ra was rumored to be followed by the darkness he had witnessed. He seemed indifferent to these rumors, however, preferring his deeds to speak for his character. And speak they did, as Maugan Ra single-handedly held back the Tyranid Hive Fleet Leviathan from traversing the Webway gate.

Despite his heroic deeds, Maugan Ra was feared by his kin, his reputation tainted by his brush with the darkness of the Eye of Terror. Ten thousand years after the fall of Alaitoc, the Eye of Terror disgorged legions of Chaos of an unprecedented scale. In this moment of crisis, the Phoenix Lord dove into the abyss, seeking the remnants of his lost people.

His quest was not in vain. He found Alaitoc, still intact, and led his people out of the Eye of Terror. Nevertheless, the other Eldar were wary, whispering doubts about how he could have escaped the corruption of the Chaos Gods. Yet, no one harbored more hatred for these dark entities than Maugan Ra. His icy demeanor hid a burning rage, a thirst for vengeance that would soon be quenched.

The Great Rift gave him an opportunity to reap a bloody harvest among his enemies. His Maugetar, the symbol of his power, brought death and doom to many. It fired shurikens so sharp and large they could decimate entire groups, only to disappear as if evaporated by fire.

In the hands of Maugan Ra, the Maugetar is a triumph of brutality, a weapon of such versatility and lethality that it has become synonymous with the Dark Reapers themselves. Some say it was forged in another world, a testament to the Phoenix Lord’s otherworldly power. But those who have heard the bone singers know the truth – it is the embodiment of Maugan Ra, a weapon crafted from darkness and honed for destruction.
