Story of Kharn the Betrayer – Part 1

Title: The Blood-Soaked Path of Khârn the Betrayer: A Glimpse into the World Eaters

In the relentless pursuit of dominion, the Emperor of Mankind sought a weapon devoid of self-interest, a force that would never turn against its creator, prioritizing the needs of the Imperium above all else. Ironically, the World Eaters, the instrument of his design, were not what he had envisioned. With an insatiable thirst for bloodshed, the World Eaters reveled in the aftermath of conflicts that should never have been waged. They were no mere loyal pets of the Emperor.

Wolves, they were not. Wolves obey and can be trusted, yet the World Eaters were bereft of this discipline, their rage unbridled, their minds tormented by the itch of the ‘Butcher’s Nails’. The Emperor may have leashed them, trained them to fulfill his whims, but they behaved as neither wolves nor dogs. Thus, they became the World Eaters, not the Warhounds.

In the heart of this bloody maeli, stood Khârn the Betrayer, a Chaos Space Marine from the traitorous Legion of the World Eaters. A mortal champion of Khorne, Khârn led The Butcher Horde with unmatched ferocity, surpassed in aggression and bloodlust only by the Demonic Primarch of the World Eaters, Angron. Khârn’s life was a testament to treachery and murder, his victories marked by a trail of spilled blood and collected skulls.

On the battlefield, Khârn was a force of nature. His weapon of choice, the heavy chain axe Gâ Child, carved a path of destruction wherever he went. Rimmed with indestructible teeth from the Mica Dragon, this dreadful axe was a harbinger of death, its ceaseless rise and fall claiming countless skulls. Khârn was the embodiment of Khorne, personifying the Blood God’s thirst and primal fury in the mortal realm.

The legend of Khârn dates back to the Emperor’s Great Crusade, a time when he was part of the 12th Legion, the Warhounds, the precursors to the World Eaters. Born on Terra, the cradle of humanity, Khârn was one of the first Neophytes recruited into the Legion. Under the watchful eye of Centurion Gruna, Khârn honed his skills on the training grounds of Bot.

The Warhounds had a unique tradition, ‘the contest’, requiring each warrior to collect a thousand skulls. No one had ever achieved this feat before. When Khârn inquired about where to gather the skulls, the tattooed giant Gruna erupted in laughter, marking Khârn’s first humiliation. Yet, this did not deter Khârn. He survived the trials and quickly ascended the ranks, his prowess in close combat earning him the title of Centurion of the elite 12th Assault Company.

The reunion with Primarch Angron, however, was far from joyous. Enraged by the Emperor’s intervention in his gladiatorial life, Angron was confined to the cargo hold of the flagship ‘Conqueror’. Many tried to reason with him, but met their end. Khârn, however, dared to face the enraged giant. He walked calmly through the room drenched in his brother’s blood, undeterred by Angron’s looming shadow. The saga of Khârn the Betrayer was only just beginning.
