Blog Post Title: “Lorgar Aurelian: A Tale of Sacrifice and Power in the Age of the Great Crusade”
Welcome back, fellow lore enthusiasts, to our multi-part series diving deep into the heart of the Warhammer 40,000 cosmos. In this particular entry, we’re exploring the complex narrative of the Primarch Lorgar Aurelian, a character who embodies the classic struggle between personal ambition and the greater good of humanity.
Our tale begins with Lorgar, a wise and thoughtful leader, on the brink of a critical decision. As the Primarch of the Word Bearers, he faced the choice between pursuing personal glory or ensuring the future of humanity. He knew well that the path to victory often demands significant sacrifices.
When Lorgar returned to the material universe, he began to reshape his legion according to Inl’s instructions. The Word Bearers’ history split into two distinct chapters: one where they brought world after world into compliance, annihilating Xenos and subjugating humans; the other, a secretive chapter, hidden from the prying eyes of Imperial researchers.
Over the next 50 years, the legion underwent a transformation. New warriors replenished its ranks, and a series of victories catapulted them ahead of their peers. But amidst this growth, Lorgar initiated a wave of purges, ridding the Word Bearers of dissenters.
During this period, the Word Bearers acquired three unique class ships – Deprofundis, Tragion, and Blessed Lady. Named in honor of the saved from Kur Sirene Valon, these ships were unparalleled amongst the Imperial Fleet, drawing comparisons only to Rogal Dorn’s mighty Phalanx.
The golden Primarch, Lorgar, had a unique gift from his genetic father – a power of persuasion far exceeding the ordinary charisma typical of the Emperor’s sons. His power of persuasion, or the ‘power of the word’, as it was known, played a crucial role in his conquests.
However, after his pilgrimage, Lorgar discovered new talents, including the ability to use words as a weapon of destruction. This revelation coincided with a bitter truth: the Gods existed, and they craved worship in exchange for unprecedented power. The truth was a difficult pill to swallow, but swallow it he did.
The Word Bearers played a pivotal role in the heresy, leading Horus Lupercal to the service of the Dark Gods. They also participated in the first large-scale battles of the heresy at Istvan 5. There, Lorgar witnessed the tragic duel between his brothers Ferris and Fulgrim – a sight that left him with an immense sense of regret.
Despite being rejected by his brothers, Lorgar’s resolve remained unbroken, thanks in part to Kor Phaeron, who reminded him of the harsh truth they served. Lorgar himself later fought and survived a battle with Coris Korax, further proving his mettle in this era of strife.
In the aftermath of the battle at Istvan 5, Lorgar unleashed an unexpected rage upon seeing Fulgrim possessed by a demon. The demon had violated the divine plan, and Lorgar swore to expel it back into the warp, promising to teach it the rules of behavior.
Lorgar’s journey is one of sacrifice and growth, of embracing hard truths and harnessing newfound abilities. His story encapsulates the essence of Warhammer 40,000 – a world where individuals grapple with their destinies amidst a backdrop of cosmic war and ideological struggle.
